Jane has a fine knitting pedigree: after studying textile design at Winchester School of Art, she went on to learn direct from one of the industry’s big names – Debbie Bliss. Jane also believes she was lucky enough to inherit a ‘woolly gene’ from her great grandmother, who was adept with both crochet hook and knitting needles and left behind a treasured legacy of hand-worked blankets.
After college, Jane established herself as a freelance swatch designer before being appointed a Rowan Design Consultant, eventually rising to Rowan Design Consultant Manager. At the same time she started to work closely with Debbie Bliss as her workroom assistant in her North London shop. With Debbie’s encouragement Jane developed her own workshop programme and began teaching for Rowan.
Jane has authored three books and is a well-known contributor to magazines, including a monthly column for The Knitter. She continues to develop workshops with independent yarn stockists, remains involved with Rowan, and last year launched her own website promoting her own designs and accessories.
Crochet has more recently become Jane’s passion and January 2011 saw the launch of her ‘crochet club’ with 250 members worldwide. Jane lives in in North London with her husband, her two children and Scramble, their Staffordshire terrier.
