Karin Hellaby – Our Quilting Expert

Karin Hellaby is an internationally renowned quilting teacher and a prolific author of quilting books and articles. She has not only taught at the largest outdoor quilt show in the world, Sisters in Oregon, USA, but has also been honoured by a solo display of her work there. Karin also owns and runs her own quilting business in Suffolk – Quilters Haven, which has been thriving for the past 18 years.

Karin’s family background is Norwegian and she often cites her Viking heritage as being at the root of her love of travel. As luck would have it her work, which is also her passion, has taken her to many countries across the globe, including teaching assignments and book signings in America, Canada, the Middle East, New Zealand and many European locations.

As the author of books covering multitudinous patchwork techniques, Karin’s self-confessed speciality is to find the easiest, most efficient and quickest methods to create both traditional and contemporary quilts. Her latest book series, Sew Simple, focuses on one technique per book.

Born in the North-East, Karin studied for a Home Economics degree in Education at the University of Wales, but is now firmly ensconced in Suffolk. One of her proudest achievements is to have brought up three sons on her own.
