ATOL Protected Travel –what it means to you

All our bowls holidays are covered by our ATOL issued by the government’s Civil Aviation Authority. Since the onset of cut-price, ‘no frills’ airlines and the ability to book hotels on the internet, many clubs have been tempted to ‘do their own thing’. Failures of some low-cost airlines has left thousands stranded aboard. The cut-price carriers are not ATOL members and, therefore, your money is not protected. ATOL – which is short for “Air Travel Organisers’ License” – exists to protect you from losing money or being stranded aboard because of the failure of air travel firms. It was first introduced in 1972 and it gives comprehensive consumer protection to 28 million people in the UK who buy flights or air holidays each year.

ATOL protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad when a tour operator goes out of business. As a licensed firm we have lodged a bond with the CAA so that, in the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA can give refunds to people who can’t travel and arrange for people abroad to finish their holiday and fly home.

ATOL protection is included in the price of all our holidays, and there’s a Government-backed fund called Air Travel Trust that steps in if any ATOL bond isn’t enough to look after everyone affected by failure.

We know that club organizers enjoy putting together their own tours but the risk they run is that they could be personally liable if any part of the ‘package’ goes awry. That’s why with Arena taking the burden of the licence, the booking and the liability insurance, the club organizer can tell us exactly what they want and when…. and we’ll make all the arrangements.
