Travel to an island steeped in the finest traditions of working with wool and discover not only a rich source of yarns and techniques, but a place of wild landscapes and dramatic scenery where you’re never more than three miles from the sea.

Based in the Shetland capital of Lerwick, this tour delves into the long history of knitting in the Isles and includes workshops where you’ll learn from expert Debbie Abrahams/ Jane Crowfoot  the methods behind two ancient Shetland techniques – Fair Isle, with its intricate patterns and multiple colours, and delicate lace knitting. Combine this with visits to local wool merchants and knitting shops, the chance to tour dedicated textile and knitting museums, plus a unique opportunity to meet and talk with local craftspeople with knitting in their blood, and you have a holiday with a difference which is not to be missed!
