Let Karin Hellaby use her expert knowledge to guide you round one of Europe’s premier quilt shows, and undoubtedly its most picturesque. Spread across four fairytale villages nestling amid verdant valleys in Alsace, France’s smallest province, the Carrefour Européen du Patchwork is a kaleidoscope of quilters and quilts from around the world.

Now in its 16th successful year, the Meeting takes place annually and attracts 21,000 visitors from 50 countries for a feast of quilting against a stunning mountain backdrop. Centred on the village of Ste Marie-aux-Mines with its pretty pastel buildings and traditional church spires, visitors can enjoy four days of exhibitions, workshops, talks and competitions, with over 800 textile works on show in all.

This year South Korea and Germany are the guest countries of honour, and there will be the usual enticing mix of contemporary and traditional quilts from countless other countries, including a display of Amish work. All this and more than 150 European and international exhibitors selling all manner of quilting tools and accessories makes this quilters’ heaven one that is hard to resist.
