The mystical Northern Lights and the majestic splendour of Norway’s rugged coastline are at the heart of this quilting expedition into Arctic territory. Led by our expert Karin Hellaby, the tour highlight is a voyage aboard a Hurtigruten ship, giving quilters the chance to enjoy daily on-board stitching sessions while the dramatic Scandinavian scenery slips past. From craggy fjords to wide seas, island chains and picturesque fishing settlements, the ship ventures into remote territory where the birds and the waves are kings.

Starting out in Kirkenes on the Russian border and covering the 1600 coastal miles to Bergen, the voyage includes 34 ports of call along the way, including the chance to explore the historic city of Trondheim. Another tantalising prospect is that of spotting the Northern Lights during one of their most active times of the year. Never the same twice, this dazzling natural phenomenon transforms the night sky into a kaleidoscope of colour, filling it at incredible speed with great arcs and ghostly wisps of green, yellow, red and violet – promising quilters a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
