This fabulous tour takes you on a journey of discovery, as we stay in the heart of four of Europes grand imperial capitals before embarking on a river cruise along the Danube. We start in Berlin, the vibrant yet relaxed capital of Germany. Next we visit Prague, known as the city of a hundred spiresfor its beautiful cathedrals and churches which define the skyline, then we discover the pearl of the Danube that is Budapest before joining our ship to cruise from Hungary to Germany. Once on board our course is set along the river where you will call at the baroque wonderland of Bratislava, lose yourself in the waltzes and whirls of Vienna, gaze at the flawless beauty of the Wachau valley and wander along the cobbled streets of Melk. With individually selected hotels, stylish accommodation aboard the MS Serenity, and plenty of free time, this is a perfect opportunity to enjoy unique charms and cultures on this fascinating holiday.

We journey aboard Eurostar from London to Brussels and continue by rail to Berlin where we check in at our hotel.

Berlin has undergone enormous change in the last decade and blossomed into a vibrant yet relaxed capital city, with so much to enjoy. Join our included guided coach tour, so you can take in some of the top attractions. The rest of the day you are free to explore some top attractions such as the impressive Reichstag building, home to the German parliament; the famous Brandenburg Gate, Germanys iconic symbol; the remains of the Berlin Wall, where you can discover its stories at the Checkpoint Charlie Museum; and Potsdamer Platz, one of the busiest squares in Europe. Dinner is served back at our hotel later today, after which you can enjoy a relaxing evening or see the city lit up at night.

Enjoy another full day at leisure.

This morning we take the train to Prague. On arrival in Prague we enjoy a city tour of all the main sights and attractions that are on offer. Later we check into our hotel which will be our base for the next two nights.

There are few cities in Europe that match Prague, which boasts some 600 years of beautifully preserved architecture. Venture into the historic centre and you will find small plaques which point out key landmarks on a circular route of approximately 5 miles –its a great way to take yourself on a tour of the city and see some of the main buildings and monuments. Theres also Prague Castle –the largest ancient castle in Europe, the beautiful Spanish Synagogue, Wallenstein Gardens which offer free entrance, and so much more.

This morning we travel by rail to Budapest. We arrive later in the day for a relaxing evening.

We start the day with a guided tour of one of the most beautiful cities in the world with an extensive area recognised as a world heritage site. You are then free to explore both sides of Hungarys capital which is divided by the meandering Danube – traditional Buda and the more cosmopolitan Pest. Most of the famous sites are concentrated around Castle Hill on the Buda side, in downtown Pest and along the riverside walkways. Highlights include the Royal Palace, Fishermens Bastion, the Parliament building, St Stephens Basilica, Heroes Square, Chain Bridge, and many more.

This morning we have free time to do any sightseeing or shopping before we board the MS Serenity this afternoon and settle onboard for a relaxing evening.

Enjoy a morning in Budapest or join our optional afternoon excursion which takes you through the sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse. Here we visit a traditional stud farm and enjoy a tour of the grounds in a horse-drawn carriage, before watching a spectacular live Puszta horse show. We set sail in the late afternoon and cruise towards Bratislava.

Wake up in Bratislava, the historic capital of Slovakia which is dominated by its castle. Theres also the unique suspension bridge, another key landmark, announced as the building of the century when it opened in 1972. Join our optional guided tour to take in the main sights and experience the rich culture in and around the old town before our ship cruises towards Vienna.

We spend a full day experiencing the delights of Vienna, where grand palaces, baroque castles, magnificent squares and striking monuments are just some of many highlights. In the morning you can join our optional city tour and in the afternoon we have an optional excursion to Schönbrunn Palace, which takes you on a journey through time as we explore some of the 1,441 rooms. We cast off later this evening.

Later this morning we arrive in the Austrian town of Melk, which is filled with cobbled streets and attractive buildings. It is also overlooked by one of the most splendid monastic houses in Austria –the Benedictine Abbey, which you can visit on our optional excursion. We continue cruising upriver towards Passau.

This morning we bid farewell to our captain and his crew and travel by train to Munich for an overnight stay.

We set off this morning by rail for our return journey to the UK.
