The four star superior Grand Hotel Portoroz is the perfect location for a First for Bridge Holiday. This impressive hotel is situated directly on the flat sea front promenade in the chic resort of Portoroz close to the shops, minimarkets and cafes and overlooking the bay of Piran.

This hotel also boasts the most comprehensive thermal, health and wellness centre in Europe, and our guests have complimentary entrance to the thermomineral and heated sea water pools.

The tiny coastline of Slovenia, wedged between Italy and Croatia, may only be a mere 46.6 kilometres long, but a fifth of the coastline as a preserved area and the region is simply beautiful. Historic coastal towns with Venetian architecture that have survived for many centuries under Venetian rule, and chic Mediterranean coastal resorts are flanked by hillsides dotted with friendly villages, olive trees and vines leading from the Adriatic to the unique Karst region, offering spectacular scenery and charm.

The four star superior Grand Hotel Portoroz, offers quality accommodation, excellent buffet cuisine, a prestigious private beach and sunny terrace. Enjoy relaxing in the two large indoor swimming pools with Prehistoric Sea Water or treat yourself to one of the many wellness treatments available or try one of the seven different saunas in the Sauna Park*.(charge, but *First for Bridge Guests have one complimentary 2 hour entry to the Sauna park during their stay).

The historic walled coastal town of Piran is an absolute must to visit, and is easily reached by local bus or a flat coastal walk, or an organised optional boat trip. The fishing town of Izola is equally worth visiting. Both towns belonged to the Republic of Venice for many years and amidst the Venetian buildings and pavement cafes and signposts in Italian and Slovenian you would be forgiven for thinking you are still in Italy!

Slovenia is known for its fine dining, and the green olive oil is among the best in the world. Try the Piran sea bass, sip the Istrian White wine and taste Trnic - the Slovenian cheese of love!

Not to be missed is a visit to the Lipica Stud Farm where black foals grow into white horses much admired for their graciousness, nor the Postojna Cave which is the most visited cave in Europe and where you can take a train ride through its 21kms of passages.

Why not combine your stay with one or two weeks at our Hotel Diamant in Porec, Croatia, and experience two completely different coastal regions in this beautiful part of Europe? We provide the transfer between the two hotels which is only just over an hour’s drive. Two countries in one holiday!

During your duplicate bridge holidays nothing is obligatory, you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break and in addition to playing bridge, we will always endeavour to provide a minimum of two bridge seminars for breaks of 7 days or more.

All of our bridge holidays include bridge seminars with handouts in addition to a varied and interesting duplicate bridge programme. We use duplimated boards every evening to ensure fairness and consistency. Bridge hand records are provided, as well as bridge partners if needed.

Your duplicate bridge will usually be available twice daily, at 2.30pm and 7.45pm. The afternoon sessions usually finish between 4.45pm and 5pm, the evenings between 10.45pm - 11.15pm. The afternoons are normally given over to open pairs/teams. We endeavour to vary the evening sessions, with a balance between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week bridge break.

During all evening sessions, we utilise a duplimate machine, which means we are able to produce hand record sheets at the end of the session and when we have two or more sections, both can play the same hands. On our UK duplicate bridge breaks, provided numbers allow, we usually will lay on an "Early Bird" afternoon session on the day of arrival.

We don’t forget you are on holiday, our bridge programmes allow time for relaxation plus giving you plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area and relax.
