El Alamein - the battle that turned the tide in North Africa. Join us on a memorable tour of the famous Egyptian battlefields where the 8th Army were victorious, visit the Alamein Memorial and see the 7,000 graves and gather in a remote desert cemetery near the Egyptian town of El Alamein to mark the 75th anniversary of Britain's "greatest victory since Waterloo".
The Battle of El Alamein, which opened with a 1,000-gun artillery barrage on the night of Oct 23 1942, amounted to a turning point in the Second World War for the British Army. In a 12-day offensive, the British Eighth Army under General Montgomery routed the German Afrika Korps, destroying about a third of its fighting strength ending Hitler's hopes of capturing the Middle East.
