Discover the delights of the Danube on one of the most scenic journeys through the heart of Europe. Cruise in comfort and style onboard the MS Serenity passing wonderful scenery and romantic, historic cities whilst discovering the intriguing colours of Slovakian embroidery, exploring the history of Hungary’s place in fashion and seek out Vienna’s treasure trove of fabric shops.

We have bespoke textile related tours in the musical city of Vienna, beautiful Budapest and in the wonderful Slovakian Capital of Bratislava. A fantastic opportunity to cruise the river immortalised by Johann Strauss' Waltz - 'the Blue Danube'.

DAY 1: LONDON TO THE DANUBE

Morning flight from Heathrow to Munich where we transfer to our ship in Passau. We embark our floating home, MS Serenity and enjoy a relaxing evening on board as we glide down the Danube towards Melk. This evening, join us for dinner in the ship’s restaurant and a chance for us to welcome you and for you to meet your fellow travellers and chat about the days ahead.

DAY 2: DANUBE CRUISE, MELK & VIENNA

This morning we will enjoy breakfast on board whilst arriving in the little town of Melk, where we include a visit the world famous Abbey.

Included excursion: Melk Abbey
Melk Abbey is situated above the town with stunning views of the Wachau Valley and River Danube. It is a beautiful and elegant Baroque Monastry which is famous worldwide and has been occupied by Benedictine Monks for over 900 years.

At lunch time we continue our cruise through the scenic Wachau valley to Vienna. There will be a workshop on board this afternoon with Mandy Shaw. This evening the ship arrives on the outskirts of Vienna and is berthed here overnight.

DAY 3: VIENNA

Today we explore Vienna, the magnificent charming city of music with its Grand palaces, baroque castles, Imperial Squares and narrow medieval lanes.

This morning we have a Vienna City Sightseeing Tour which takes you to the Ringstrasse boulevard, passing the majestic architecture and discover an atmosphere steeped in history. Sights include: Vienna State Opera, the Grand Hofburg Palace, the Museum of Art History and the Museum of Natural History. Further sights on our tour are the neoclassical Parliament, the acclaimed Burgtheater and the striking City Hall where the legendary Life Ball takes place. (Please note, no entrance costs are included. There is some walking involved in the tour.)

In the afternoon we have an included a visit to see the most outstanding medieval textiles from the collection at the MAK Museum before visiting the best fabric shops in the city. If time allows, do visit one of the famous coffee houses who’s pastries inspired our Viennese Whirls!

DAY 4: BUDAPEST

This morning we arrive in Budapest - the best way to arrive in this stunning city is on the river so be sure that you are on deck as we arrive! We have the rest of the day and overnight to explore Budapest and we have included a tour to show you the highlights of this delightful city.

In the evening we are offering an optional extra 'Budapest by night' excursion.

Included excursion: Budapest City Tour
Discover all the most important sights in Budapest on a city tour. See the main attractions on both sides of the River Danube, Buda and Pest. Walk around the Castle District, enjoy the view from the Citadel see the Chain bridge, Parliament Building, Central market and Hero’s Square whilst hearing our guides information on the 1000 year old history of the city.

Optional excursion: Budapest by night - a folklore evening full of fun and music.

DAY 5: BUDAPEST

This morning we have the morning in Budapest and we take the opportunity to visit the Goldberger Textile Museum. This is a hidden gem offering a glimpse into Budapest’s role in textile history in the former home of The Goldberger family who established their textile business in 1784, it’s a visit not to be missed!

At lunchtime we say farewell to Budapest as we set sail for Bratislava. This afternoon we have a workshop on board the ship with Mandy Shaw.

DAY 6: BRATISLAVA

We wake up in Bratislava! The capital of Slovakia - an intriguing and relatively new capital, topped with a castle which overlooks the lovely pastel coloured old town. We have an included visit to see the colourful Slovakian Embroidery and some free time in the old town before a visit to a fabric shop (or two!). In the afternoon we leave Bratislava and cruise in the afternoon and overnight towards Dürnstein.

DAY 7: DÜRNSTEIN

Wake up in Dürnstein in Austria back in the Wachau valley - a lovely sleepy town surrounded by Vineyards and overlooked by its castle (it was here that Richard the Lionheart was held captive in the castle by Duke Lepold V of Austria) . Be sure to sample one of the apricot specialities, whether its strudel or brandy! Also worth a visit is the House of Colours, a shop of a local artist known for her jewellery and prints on textiles. You’ll then have free time to explore the town before our ship departs Dürnstein and cruises through the afternoon/evening and overnight to Passau. This afternoon there will be a workshop on board the ship with Mandy Shaw.

DAY 8: PASSAU – MUNICH – LONDON

Disembark the ship after breakfast and transfer by coach to Munich Airport for the afternoon flight to London.

MS Serenity****

MS Serenity is a 4 star ship with a sleek and spacious design. On the Panorama deck you will find the spacious lounge bar with panoramic windows and comfortable seating whilst the Lido bar, with its outdoor terrace, can be found at the stern.

The restaurant, also with panoramic windows on the Middle deck, is where we enjoy breakfast, lunch and evening meals. If the weather permits, why not visit the sundeck for uninterrupted views of the Rhine scenery?

CABINS

Cabins are situated over 3 decks:

Panorama deck cabins
On the upper deck with a full length window and a French balcony. Each cabin has an en-suite shower & WC, air conditioning, twin berths, satellite TV, radio, safe and hairdryer.

Middle deck cabins
On the middle deck with mid height picture windows. These cabins are the same size as those on the Panorama deck and also have an en-suite shower & WC, air conditioning, twin berths, satellite TV, radio, safe and hairdryer.

Main deck cabins
On the lower deck with head height picture windows. These cabins are the same size as those on the Panorama deck and also have an en-suite shower & WC, air conditioning, twin berths, satellite TV, radio, safe and hairdryer.
