JOIN KARIN HELLABY FOR A STITCH AND QUILTING BREAK IN THE FAROES!
Following the popularity of our knitting holidays in the Faroes we have had requests to include some of the textile highlights of this wonderful island. So, we have worked with Karin Hellaby, who is a fan of all things Nordic and are delighted to offer this new tour that will appeal to those with an interest in quilting, textiles and a broad range of crafts.
In addition to the textile and craft elements, including workshops with Karin and a knitting workshop with local expert, you will have the opportunity to tour the stunning landscapes of The Faroe Islands. You’ll stay in Tórshavn - the capital and largest city of the Islands, a cultural haven in amidst of the Faroes’ abundant natural beauty, and we’re sure that you’ll find no end of enjoyment and inspiration exploring its picturesque streets and harbour. Throughout your holiday you will be staying at the charming Hotel Føroyar, in a great location perfect for absorbing all that the Faroe Islands have to offer.
With so much to see and do, you will learn new techniques and improve on old ones in the workshops, led by Karin in a private meeting room in the hotel.
After independent travel to Edinburgh Airport, you will meet your Tour Manager and Karin before boarding your Atlantic Airways direct flight to Vágar Airport (Faroe Islands). Upon arrival, your local guide will welcome you and join you on the transfer to the Hotel Foroyar in Tórshavn, which will be your home for the rest of the trip. Join the rest of the group this evening for a welcome dinner in the hotel, a chance to meet your fellow crafters and chat about the days ahead!
After breakfast at your hotel, you will enjoy a guided tour during which you will explore Tórshavn on a guided walk through the old town. We continue with a visit to local textile designer Poulina Jóanesardóttir who has her own weaving workshop and has taught weaving for many years. Next you will drive to the cultural center, Kirkjubøur, for a sightseeing tour including visits to the cathedral, church and museum. Your afternoon will be spent enjoying your first workshop at the hotel led by expert, Karin, who will create a project for the workshops during the holiday. Your kits and details of the equipment to bring will be sent to you before you travel. This evening is at leisure.

A day at leisure today allowing you time for independent sightseeing or shopping, or to perhaps continue with your project in the comfort of your surroundings.
Alternatively you may wish to join us on an optional excursion: Vestmanna Bird Cliffs and Panorama Tour (0900-1500hrs) Via the mountain road to Vestmanna where the excursion boat awaits. The boat sails along the cliff wall, into a narrow strait and into some of the many grottoes. On the return to Tórshavn stop at the Viking settlements in Kvívík with lunch included. This evening is at leisure.
Today our sightseeing tour will start at the National Museum with guided tour of the textiles at the museum and talk by a curator. We will then take in the dramatic scenery along the coast crossing the bridge over the North Atlantic and continue via the sub-sea tunnel to the northern islands. We arrive in Klaksvik, the second largest town in the Faroes and visit the fine Christian church in the center of the town and see artwork by the known artist Edvard Fuglø in the cellar of the church. We visit a local textile artist in Klaksvik. Lunch is served in the cosy Café Fríða. After lunch we have a visit to an old textile school from 1934 that is still in use today. From Klaksvik we drive to the northern most village on the island of Eysturoy and enjoy exploring the idyllic village of Gjógv where we have coffee before the scenic return to Tórshavn. This evening is at leisure.
Your morning is at leisure. This afternoon you may wish to join our optional excursion to the village of Nolsoy & Tórshavn, 1230-1830. Transfer from the hotel to the ferry from Tórshavn to Nolsoy, duration approx. 20 minutes. Local guide will meet us up arrival. First we have lunch at the information office in the Village – in nice settings. Guided tour of the village so different from the town life. Our guide has a good knowledge about knitting and textiles in the Faroes and we can see some local knitwork. Return with the ferry at 1650 and we are back in Tórshavn 1710. Our tour will end with a visit to a textile designer in the capital and tour before returning to the hotel around 1830.

This evening please join Karin and your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner in the hotel, 3 courses (no drinks included) to be served in in a group dining area.
After an early breakfast this morning you will transfer out to the airport to check-in for the return Atlantic Airways flight to Edinburgh.
