Join us for the chance to tour the stunning landscapes of The Faroe Islands in the company of a great group of fellow travellers who share your passion. You’ll also be accompanied by our tour manager and local expert Katrina i Geil who will host our two and a half days of workshops. We’ll stay in central Tórshavn, the capital of the Islands, close to the harbour in the heart of this small city that is a cultural haven amidst the Faroes’ abundant natural beauty.

We’ll show you the key attractions of this undiscovered corner of the world, away from the bustle of day to day life on our included and optional excursion programme. This is a great opportunity to relax in truly mesmerising natural beauty and enjoy time honing your knitting skills. During your holiday, you will also get the chance to visit the fascinating National Museum and learn more about the history of knitting and meet local yarn producers. You will quickly see just how entwined the inspiration of this craft is into these stunning islands.

Throughout your holiday you will be staying at the charming Hotel Tórshavn, in a great location perfect for absorbing all that the Faroe Islands have to offer. With so much to see and do, you will learn new techniques and improve on old ones in the knitting workshops, led by Katrina in a private meeting room in the hotel.

The Faroe Islands possess a strong affinity with knitting, making it the perfect destination for your holiday. At one stage in the islands’ rich history woollen products were the most traded goods - illustrating just how important craft culture is to this beautiful part of the world. Traditionally, the men of the islands carded and spun the wool, whilst the women knitted, generating in excess of 100,000 pairs of knitted socks each year by the middle of the eighteenth century and by the nineteenth century that number of jumpers were also being produced to the same inimitable standard.

DAY 1:

After independent travel to Edinburgh Airport, you will meet your Tour Manager before boarding your Atlantic Airways direct flight to Vágar Airport (Faroe Islands). Upon arrival, your local guide will welcome you for the transfer to the Hotel Tórshavn, which will be your home for the duration of your holiday. Join the rest of the group this evening for a welcome dinner in the hotel, a chance to meet your fellow knitters and chat about the days ahead!

DAY 2:

After breakfast enjoy a tour exploring Tórshavn on a guided walk through the old town. You will also get to visit the shop of renowned Faroe Island knitting designers Guðrun & Guðrun, with perhaps a chance to meet them. Next you will drive to the cultural center of Kirkjubøur visiting the cathedral, church and museum. Return to Tórshavn with time for lunch before your first knitting workshop at the hotel led by Katrina i Geil who will share her project for the holiday’s workshops. Details of the equipment to bring will be sent to you before you travel. The evening is at leisure.

DAY 3:

Today you will enjoy a full day of workshops led by Katrina in the comfort of your hotel. The evening is at leisure.

DAY 4:

Today is at leisure for independent sightseeing, shopping or perhaps to sit and knit in the comfort of your hotel. Alternatively you may wish to join us on an optional excursion to the Vestmanna Bird Cliffs. Travel via the mountain road to Vestmanna where the excursion boat awaits to sail along the cliff wall, into a narrow strait and into some of the many grottoes. On the return to Tórshavn we’ll stop at the Viking settlements in Kvívík with lunch included. The evening is at leisure.

DAY 5:

Today our included sightseeing tour will start at the National Museum with a guided textiles tour and talk by a curator. We will then take in the dramatic coastal scenery as we cross the bridge over the North Atlantic and continue via the sub-sea tunnel to the northern islands. We arrive in Klaksvik, the second largest town in the Faroes, and visit the fine Christian church. See artwork by the well-known artist Edvard Fuglø in the church cellar and visit a local textile artist. Lunch is served in the cosy Café Fríða followed by a visit to an old textile school from 1934 that is still in use. From Klaksvik we drive to the northern most village on the island of Eysturoy before the scenic drive returning to Tórshavn. This evening is at leisure.

DAY 6:

A day at leisure or join our morning optional excursion to the village of Nolsoy. Walk from the hotel to the ferry to Nolsoy where a local guide will lead a tour of the village visiting the museum and the chance to see local knitwear. Lunch is served before the return ferry and the stroll back to the hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.

DAY 7:
