Enjoy 2 days at the festival and then experience the history and architectural highlights of Girona and Barcelona. We stay for two nights in Barcelona and a guided tour of the magnificent Sagrada Familia, perhaps Gaudi’s most famous architectural creation, will be a highlight of this crafting holiday. We have also arranged 2 included workshops with Mandy during our stay in Girona making this the perfect combination of sewing and sightseeing in the sun.

For over a decade now, the town of Sitges has been hosting the International Patchwork Festival, the biggest textile art fair in Spain. Organised by the Town Council, the Tourist Promotion Agency of Sitges and the Spanish Patchwork Association (AEP), the event brings together national and international exhibitions dedicated to patchwork, thematic courses, workshops for children and a big fair of around 100 stands devoted to the art of patchwork. Sitges Patchwork Festival has become an international reference event in the area of textile art, and counts more than 15,000 visitors throughout the four days it lasts.

DAY 1:

Meet your Tour Manager and Mandy at London Gatwick for your morning flight to Barcelona. On arrival transfer to the Hotel Calipolis in Sitges for a 3 night stay.

DAYS 2 & 3 - SITGES:

Enjoy 2 days in Sitges with entrance tickets to the Patchwork Festival included. The Commercial Fair is located right in front of your hotel and you can also visit the exhibitions in historic buildings along the seafront. The evenings are at leisure.

We leave Sitges this morning for the short drive to Girona. The city lies on the banks of the River Onyar and is known for its medieval architecture, atmospheric Old Quarter (Barri Vell) and the Roman remains of the Forca Vella Fortress. We have included a walking tour in the company of a local guide ensuring you see all the highlights of the city. At the end of the tour we’ll check in to the Hotel Gran Ultonia for a 2 night stay. Later this afternoon join Mandy for a workshop in the comfort of your hotel.

Enjoy a second workshop with Mandy this morning. This afternoon we have arranged a visit to R C QUILTS PATCHWORK SHOP in Esclanya. There will be time to shop and meet the owner, Rosario Casanovas.

We leave Girona this morning for the drive to Barcelona. On arrival we’ll enjoy an included sightseeing tour of the city in the company of a local guide. We’ll see the Passeig de Gràcia, the main street of the city and the magical parks and fountains of Montjuic. Our tour also includes a visit to the Sagrada Familia, a jewel of the city’s world-famous architect, Antoni Gaudi who was also the most important exponent of the Catalan modernism movement. Other Gaudi gems on our tour include Casa Batlló and Casa Milà. After some free time for lunch (at your own expense) we’ll visit Els Encants. This busy flea market has been operating since the 14th century making it one of the oldest markets of its kind in Europe. Later we’ll visit a traditional fabric store before checking in to the Market Hotel for a two night stay.

This morning we join our local guide again for a morning walking tour exploring some of the older parts of Barcelona. We’ll see the Gothic Quarter, stroll along Las Ramblas, visit the Saint Cross Cathedral and take in the sights and sounds of the vibrant La Boqueria market. The balance of the day is free for you to shop and explore the city at leisure. Join your quilting companions for a “show and tell” and farewell drink at the hotel this evening.
