Join Karin Hellaby on this fabulous tour to Norway. Set against a backdrop of breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, this tour takes you on a discovery of Norway's rich textile heritage. Under the professional guidance of a local expert, you can try your hand at traditional Hardanger embroidery. Join in the colourful celebrations on Norwegian Constitution Day where you will be immersed in festivities filled with flags, ribbons and national costumes.

By special invitation, you have a truly unique opportunity to visit the studio of internationally loved sewing brand, Tilda on the beautiful island of Tjøme. You will enjoy a tour of the showroom before crafting a specially designed project in a private workshop hosted by the Tilda team.

DAY 1:

Meet Karin Hellaby at London Gatwick for your morning flight to Bergen. Enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the charming city of Bergen before checking in to your hotel. Get to know your fellow stitchers at dinner this evening.

DAY 2:

Enjoy a morning at leisure to explore and perhaps browse the beautiful handicrafts found in the delightful shops along Bergen's historic Bryggen waterfront. In the afternoon you will visit the Norwegian Knitting Industry Museum before a scenic drive along the banks of the beautiful Hardangerfjord to the charming village of Eidfjord for a 2-night stay.

DAY 3:

Today you will take the ferry to the island of Utne where you'll visit the Hardanger Folk Museum. The museum's exhibits include some fine examples of the famous Hardanger Lace. During the afternoon a local expert will introduce you to this traditional form of Norwegian embroidery in the first of your workshops.

DAY 4:

This morning's drive takes you across the extraordinary Hardangervidda plateau to Fagernes. Here you'll enjoy a visit to the Norwegian Institute of Bunad & Folk Costume where you'll be treated to a special presentation of garments from the museum's fine collection of traditional national dress. You'll then continue to Oslo for a 2-night stay in Norway's cosmopolitan capital.

DAY 5:

Today is Norwegian Constitution Day and you are invited to join in the celebrations! Oslo's streets awill be awash with colour as locals wearing their traditional bunad and waving the Norwegian flag watch as marching bands lead the children's parade along Karl Johans Gate to the Royal Palace.

DAY 6:

Before leaving Oslo this morning you'll visit Katherine's Quilte Stue where the array of fabrics is a stitcher's delight and source of quilting inspiration. Today's scenic drive traces the western shores of Oslofjord to the island of Tjøme and the home of Tilda. Tilda's doors are not normally open to the public so an afternoon visit to the showroom, combined with a private workshop to create a Tilda designed project, is something truly special!
