Elvis: Star Guest announced for the Elvis Party Event 2010!

We’re pleased to announce that our special guest at Mablethorpe will be Ed Bonja.

Ed Bonja

Ed was Tom Diskin’s (the Colonel’s right-hand man) nephew and because of this connection, and the fact that he was studying photography at college, he was invited to help out and take pictures when Elvis started doing live concert tours in 1970.

The ‘help out’ extended to doing everything from loading trucks to selling merchandise but it led to Ed becoming the Colonel’s, and therefore Elvis’, official photographer and his photos grace the covers of dozens of album covers. Ed’s pictures are amongst the most iconic of any ever taken of Elvis – probably due to the fact that Elvis must have felt totally comfortable with Ed whose photographic technique managed to ‘catch the moment’ so perfectly.

You’ll see many of Ed’s photographs, listen to him tell his amazing story and have the opportunity to purchase a signed photo or book.

Literary: Stieg Larsson trail in Stockholm is now online

We have launched our long weekend trip to Stockholm where we’ll enjoy a journey through the city that is the setting for the Millennium Trilogy.

If you are a fan of Stieg Larsson’s books about journalist Mikael Blomkvist and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander then this is definitely for you. It even includes coffee at Melqvists (where Larsson wrote some of the stories, and lunch at  Kvarnen, the bar frequented by Mikael and his friends at Millennium, and where Lisbeth Salander met the girls in the rock band Evil Fingers.

Larsson’s trilogy has become a huge success. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest have sold millions of copies worldwide and have been made into feature films. Since then, Stieg Larsson fans have been making their way to Stockholm to see for themselves the settings where the stories take place.

There are 2 departure dates: 29 April – 2 May 2011 and 16 – 19 September 2011.

Antiques: Eric Knowles Arena Group invited to lunch at St Louis Crystal

The Director of the St Louis Crystal Grand Place Museum, M Bertrand Feuga, has invited our group to a very specialluncheon during the Eric Knowles Art Nouveau in France Tour in June 2011.

After visiting their wonderful Museum we have been invited to tour the workshops and then to enter the Owners House – a rare treat usually only offered to VIP guests. Here, the two chefs will prepare a very special luncheon for us and it will be served on a table gorgeously set with the famous brands of Hermes group, i.e. Saint-Louis stemware, Hermes china, and Puiforcat silverware.

This is a very rare honour indeed, and just another reason to join Eric on this lovely tour to France.
