Malaga is a vibrant and atmospheric historic city, a city of art, music, culture, gastronomy and wine, the city where Picasso was born, but a city which is often overlooked by the millions of tourists who pass through its airport every year on their way to the beach resorts of the Costa del Sol, the Costa Tropical and beyond. This tour presents the best of Malaga: the Roman theatre, the Moorish Alcazaba and Gibralfaro castle above, the cathedral, historic churches, the Fine Arts Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, Picasso Museum, Museum of Glass and the Pompidou Centre. Explore historic markets, stroll through the streets of the old town, walk around the English cemetery and enjoy an evening flamenco performance. An excursion into the hinterland takes us to Antequera, a charming market town which boasts its own Moorish Alcazaba, several important churches, an impressive ‘Plaza de Toros’ (bull ring) and a ‘dolmen park’ which encloses three grand megalithic monuments. We drive to the geologically striking natural park of El Torcal and visit a local winery. Relax under the warm Andalusian sun, a glass of sweet local wine in hand, a delicious plate of tapas within reach, and soak up the atmosphere of this revamped and revitalised city.
