This Art Pursuits Abroad study tour will take us to the rolling, vineyard-covered hills of the Valdobbiadene, place of origin of the extremely drinkable light and sparkling prosecco. From our base in the charming town of Conegliano — home of Bellini’s pupil Giambattista Cima da Conegliano — we will explore the beautiful towns and historic borghi of the region. Handsome Serravalle impresses with its painted Renaissance façades and a stunning late Titian altarpiece; Belluno delights with works of Sebastiano Ricci, the originator of Venetian 18th-century painting. Possagno is dominated by the temple and pure white plaster model gallery of Antonio Canova, while picturesque Asolo inspired Robert Browning. Finally, high up in the Dolomites, Pieve di Cadore proudly displays the original patent of nobility of Titian, the town’s own prince of painters. A little-known area full of unexpected artistic highlights and accompanied by fine wines and delicious regional cuisine.
