Bridge Programmes

Club Standard Bridge Programme

During a duplicate bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. Single players are welcome, and partners are provided where needed. Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break and in addition to playing bridge, we will always endeavour to provide a minimum of two bridge seminars for breaks of 7 days or more.

All of our bridge holidays include bridge seminars with notes available online to reinforce what has been discussed. We use duplimated boards every evening to ensure fairness and consistency and hand records are provided at the end of the evening. Evening bridge will usually start at 7.45 (finishing before 11pm) and on some afternoons bridge will be provided at 2.30pm (finishing about 5pm). The afternoons are normally given over to open pairs or teams, depending on numbers. We endeavour to vary the evening sessions, with a balance between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week bridge break. On some days, afternoon bridge will be provided, normally given over to open pairs or teams depending on numbers. Master points are normally awarded for evening sessions, and for afternoon sessions if five or more tables are present. We always have enough staff to play and guarantee no half tables in the evening sessions.

We have now introduced Bridgemate scoring on our holidays to give instant results at the end of the evening and provide immediate results online. These can be found on our BridgeWebs site

Refreshers Bridge Programme

Our Refreshers bridge holidays are ideal for the novice or social bridge player. On a one-week holiday we include three seminars in the mornings lasting 2 hours, leaving you plenty of free time to explore your holiday destination. Topics covered in our interactive teaching seminars might include bidding and card play, such as Stayman and Transfers, Michael's cue bids, Ogust, finessing and unblocking.

In the evening we run a relaxed duplicate session of approximately 16 to 18 hands. The play is not too quick, with the emphasis very much on enjoyment. The evening session usually finishes around 10.30, with a friendly “debrief” over drinks in the bar afterwards.

Our aim is not to go over 12 tables in the bridge room so we can encourage a friendly atmosphere and our director can give more personal tuition.

Relaxed Bridge Programme (Applies to Play Bridge & Explore)

Play Bridge & Explore is our brand-new concept of bridge holidays. These holidays are suitable for bridge players of all levels who are looking for a relaxed holiday with duplicate bridge. Enjoy time during the day to relax, enjoy the hotel and explore your new surroundings.

Our destinations on these holidays will be carefully handpicked, featuring interesting places and will include at least two excellent excursions in the package, or an activity pass that usually includes access to many places of interest and local transport. Single guests will appreciate company outside the bridge room and being able to explore the area as part of a group, often participating in some organised walks as well as other activities.

Some groups may be smaller than our usual First for Bridge Holidays, giving us the opportunity to run bridge holidays in boutique, small & friendly hotels, and perhaps travel more of the beaten track.

During each holiday we will hold at least two morning seminars, and every evening we will play duplicate bridge - just pairs, no Swiss Events. We will also award Masterpoints and prizes as usual on these holidays.
