There are chances to explore volcanic landscapes and idyllic gardens, unwind on gorgeous beaches and even witness the spectacular Geminid meteors, leaving you feeling a world away from the December gloom being endured back home.
Time at sea to relax and settle into life on board Borealis, will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to experience the Canaries over seven memorable days. Visiting Gran Canaria makes for a perfect start; perhaps indulge in the island’s renowned warmth at the rolling sand dunes of Maspalomas or seek-out the picturesque scenery of the Agaete Valley or Los Tilos forest. The lunar-like landscapes of Lanzarote are then yours to explore; Arrecife is your gateway to Timanfaya National Park and mighty Fire Mountains, as well as the Jameos del Agua caves’ remarkable exhibit of geology and architectural design. Meanwhile, Fuerteventura will offer a taste of authentic Canarian life; pretty Puerto del Rosario boasts tapas bars and cafés, beautiful surrounding landscapes and inviting golden beaches.
Every evening after dining, we enjoy duplicate bridge sessions with our EBU qualified director and host. As always, we will offer a varied and interesting bridge programme and Masterpoints will be awarded. Our director will also present relaxed Bridge sessions and seminars for you to join on days when the ship is at sea.
The Landscapes of Tenerife excursion: Drive through the Esperanda forest and peeping through the Canarian pine trees catch a glimpse of the mighty Mount Teide. Take in your surroundings on a short stop in El Portillo, before arriving in Las Cañadas, which was declared a national park in 1954, covering an area of over 13 hectares. From the nearby Ucanca valley appreciate the stark wilderness of the lava fields before admiring the Roques Garcia, a rock formation that is symbolic of the island of Tenerife.
Lanzarote Sightseeing tour excursion: Take a relaxing panoramic drive through the unique landscapes of Lanzarote, stopping at Timanfaya National Park, which covers a quarter of the island. Known as the Fire Mountains, this dramatic landscape was created by over six years of continuous volcanic eruptions. Travel along the coast to the Hervideros where the waves crash and swirl into the carved-out caves. Move onto La Geria, with its small crescent-shaped stone walls, where low lying vines grow. Finally call at the ‘Monument of the Peasant’, built by Cesar Manrique.
