Beamish and The Northumberland Coast for Christmas

Make your way to the hotel, where you will meet our tour manager. Check in between 2pm to 4pm to enjoy an included cream tea and mulled wine on arrival. Dinner will be served in the Olympic Suite this evening.

After a leisurely breakfast, we board the coach and head to the award-winning Beamish Museum, the Living Museum of the North.

This 350-acre open-air museum recreates life in the Northeast during the 19th-century and early 20th-century. Meander down the Edwardian cobbled street and step back in time and see how families lived and worked in the years leading up to the First World War. Alternatively, head to the 1940’s farm and see what life was like on the home front during the Second World War.  Experience life in the 1900’s Pit Village showing the colliery community at the time of peak coal production in the Northeast or take a stroll around Rowley Station with its original Edwardian flare still intact. We have plenty of free time to immerse ourselves in real living history and explore all that Beamish has to offer. Our coach returns us back to the hotel after our visit.

In the evening the hotel management will welcome you with a drink’s reception, followed by dinner in the Olympic suite.

We start the day in true spirits with a glass of Bucks Fizz with breakfast.

Why not wrap up warm and take a morning stroll around the quaint town of Alnwick. This will surely build up an appetite for our traditional Christmas Day lunch.

This afternoon there is time to relax and watch the Queen’s speech. Christmas cake and Northumbrian cheese will be served during the afternoon. Later today, we will enjoy a light evening buffet for supper. 

After breakfast, we head off on a scenic drive along part of the beautiful Northumberland coast. Make sure to wrap up warm as we make photo stops along the way, as the views are truly breathtaking with their endless beaches and quiet bays.

We continue to Holy Island, which is only accessible when the tide is out. On the way, you will have views out to the Farne Islands where we  we may spot some Atlantic Grey seals and their pups, as they make an appearance between October and December. Lindisfarne (Holy Island) is home to just over 160 people and is known for its medieval religious heritage and the 16^th century castle on the mound. This island is a place of peace and tranquillity, attracting birdwatchers, walkers, and photographers. After admiring the views of Farne Islands, we head back to Bamburgh and along the Northumberland coast. After our visit, we will head back to the hotel for an included light lunch in the late afternoon, leaving you the rest of the afternoon to relax.

Later this afternoon as darkness falls, we recommend you wrap up warm as we head over to Alnwick Gardens. Here you will have included entry to the Winter Light Trail through Alnwick Garden. The gardens will bring plenty of festive cheer with twinkling lights and music as you stroll through. Once you have been around the trail you will make your way back over the road to the hotel, giving you plenty of time to freshen up before heading to the Olympic Suite for the Farewell Banquet accompanied by the resident pianist.

After breakfast, you are free to check out of the hotel and depart at leisure.
