We return after a very successful first holiday here in February. The hotel is surrounded by vast grounds which include a woodland walk, quiet country lanes and footpaths - a walker's paradise. Take advantage of the included indoor pool, sauna and gym before evening Bridge with our qualified EBU director and friendly host.
Make sure to discover the Winchester City Mill – an ancient watermill and perhaps the oldest working windmill in the UK. The Royal Green Jackets Museum hosts a range of interesting exhibits that will entertain more than just history buffs – a must see for anyone visiting the town. Visit Highclere Castle which is not just a pretty 18th century manor house, but the setting for the hit TV series Downtown Abbey that has taken the world by storm.

What to expect from this Bridge holiday:
Our Bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing Bridge, we try to include interesting Bridge seminars, hosted by your Bridge Director.
Your duplicate Bridge will be available every evening between 7.45pm and 11.15pm and we endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week Bridge break.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2.30pm and 4.45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams.
During your Bridge holiday nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many, or as few, Bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our Bridge programmes also allow time to relax and the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.

Nigel & Pauline Durie

Nigel and Pauline are both retired professionals – Nigel from teaching and Pauline from teaching via a long nursing career. They have played bridge together for over 30 years, are both National Masters and have represented the North East in county matches.

Nigel is an experienced county director and has been the chairman of his local club for longer than he cares to remember. Over the last few years he has run a very popular ‘supervised improvers night’ guiding and encouraging relatively inexperienced players to gain confidence in their ability to play at a higher level. Pauline is a club director who has experience of organising local and county congresses and has been actively involved in promoting bridge in the North East. Their main interests in life outside of bridge are travel and their two delightful granddaughters.

Their aim is to ensure that guests leave us smiling and with good memories of stunning locations, enjoyable bridge, and of making new friends.

Overview

Originally a manor house dating back to the 16th century, the hotel has been skilfully restored and extended to provide first class accommodation with every modern amenity.
