Bridge in Majorca, the Hotel Bella Playa

Cala Ratjada is a well-established resort and port on the beautiful northeast coast of Majorca that up until a couple of years ago was virtually undiscovered by British tourists. As a result, it is completely unspoilt, allowing you to enjoy delightful coastal promenades, as well as an abundance of traditional restaurants and tapas bars. Not to be missed is a haggle in the excellent Saturday market in the old town; a great opportunity to treat yourself to some leather goods or pick up a souvenir! The area is beautiful with a dramatic coastline and many sandy bays, perfect for wonderful coastal walks. Walkers will enjoy our organised weekly group walks in the surrounding countryside, and golfers will appreciate the choice of golf courses in the area.

Join us for our guided excursion around the north of this beautiful island. We stop in the popular Port d'Alcudia with its beautiful clean beach , and long, flat beach promenade abundant with shops and cafes, contrasting its old Roman site, and perfectly restored city walls and ancient houses. We continue to the beautiful old town, resort and harbour of Puerto Pollensa .

The hotel offers excellent facilities including a large indoor pool with hydro jets, saunas and steam rooms, as well as a lovely outdoor pool and terraces.

Experts
Nigel Durie

Nigel Durie

Nigel and his wife, Pauline, have been playing bridge in the Darlington area for the past 35 years and have always been involved with the day-to-day running of local clubs and in organising local competitions. They have been with First for Bridge for the last 7 years and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to ensure that our guests have a very enjoyable experience on our holidays. Due to deteriorating vision, Pauline no longer hosts or plays bridge competitively.

Nigel is a qualified county director who has been a fixture of the NEBA Congress for the last 20 years and has also directed the wide variety of North East competitions. He has just finished his stint as the North East County Chairman. Both Nigel and Pauline have retired from teaching backgrounds in a nearby Sixth Form College and although Nigel continues in a marking role for the International Baccalaureate Exam Board his main passion in life these days lies on the croquet lawn.

Included Highlights

Majorca

At the start of your bridge holiday, you’ll be invited to join our bridge director and host for a welcome meeting in the hotel. Any single travellers will have the opportunity to find a partner for the bridge room.

Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.

Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.

Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. On UK holidays, bridge sessions may take place in the mornings instead of the afternoons, complimenting any included excursion programme.

Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.

During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.

On day 5, join us on our inclusive full-day tour to the north of Majorca. It is market day in Alcudia – so be prepared to haggle for leather bags and souvenirs in this large, colourful market. We continue to the pretty resort of Pollensa for a walking tour of its centre and free time in the port. We return to the hotel, stopping on route at the panoramic Colomar viewpoint for a photo op.

During the holiday, there will also be two local organised walks with the hotel manager to the Lighthouse and through the delightful countryside.
