Bridge in Sicily at the Acacia Marina

Sicily is so rich in history that the island boasts no less than 8 UNESCO listed World heritage sites. We have included 2 fabulous excursions in our bridge holiday package. We visit Siracusa one of the most ancient towns in the world, and for over three centuries it became one of the most powerful and richest cities in the Mediterranean. Our second visit takes us to delightful Ragusa Ibla, famous for more than 50 Baroque churches. Enjoy stunning views across the valley as our Noddy train takes us all over this incredibly beautiful town, exposing glimpses of Vigata and Montelusa from the setting of Inspector Montalbano. Included is a visit to the very beautiful Gothic Venetian Donnafugata Castle, a sumptuous noble residence from the late 1800s. We stay in the lovely Acacia Marina & Acacia Palace resort where guests can enjoy the beautiful gardens, and a short flat walk along the seafront promenade leads into the centre of Marina di Ragusa. This small seaside resort offers a selection of cafes, bars and shops and its beautiful golden beach has been awarded a Blue Flag.

Christine and Stewart MacFarlane

Christine and Stewart MacFarlane were both engineers before retiring, and have since started their own Bridge School and Club in Bath. Together, they have taught and introduced many people to this wonderful game and started running weekends away for their students in 2009. This progressed to running bridge holidays and working on cruise ships as the bridge instructors. They believe bridge should be both competitive and sociable.

Christine has been on the EBU Panel since 2010 and assisted with running many congresses over the years. She has been particularly involved with the Really Easy and Progressive events to encourage newer players to play competitive.

They have two grown children and one grandchild.

Meet us at the airport and fly from Gatwick to Catania.

Includes Dinner

Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.

Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.

Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. On UK holidays, bridge sessions may take place in the mornings instead of the afternoons, complimenting any included excursion programme.

Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.

During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.

We have included 2 fabulous excursions in our bridge holiday package. We visit Siracusa one of the most ancient towns in the world, and for over three centuries it became one of the most powerful and richest cities in the Mediterranean. Founded on the small island Ortigia its Greek remains stand side by side with Renaissance buildings and Baroque churches. We spend time on its elegant promenade before our visit to the Archaeological Park and Roman Amphitheatre.
