Festive Bridge at the Merrion Hotel Llandudno

This year's pre-Christmas festive bridge get-together will be held at the fabulous Merrion Hotel in Llandudno. This hotel is popular among bridge players and is highly recommended by fellow bridge guests and staff, owing to its excellent location and superb dining. This beachfront family-run hotel is set in a Victorian townhouse across the road from North Shore Beach. It is an 8-minute walk from the Great Orme Tramway and Llandudno Pier, and a 4-minute walk from the town centre's shops and restaurants. Which Magazine recently named Llandudno the second most popular seaside resort in the United Kingdom. From your hotel, take in the stunning views of the Great Orme and walk along this iconic limestone headland. Visit the impressively preserved 13th century Conway Castle or take a stroll through Budnant Gardens, a historic, Grade I listed world-class horticultural garden in Wales.

Christine and Stewart MacFarlane

Christine and Stewart MacFarlane both were engineers but since retiring, have started their own Bridge School and Club in Bath. Together they have taught and introduced many people to this wonderful game and started running weekends away for their students in 2009. This progressed to running bridge holidays and working on cruise ships as the bridge instructors. They believe bridge should be both competitive and sociable.

Christine has been on the EBU Panel since 2010 and assisted with running many congresses over the years. She has been particularly involved with the Really Easy and Progressive events to encourage newer players to play competitive.

They have two grown children and one grandchild.

I cannot wait to get back to bridge holidays, particularly in the sunshine!

I enjoy bridge, but also meeting new people and encouraging them to appreciate the highs and lows of this intriguing game. I have been busy in lockdown when, as chairman of Cheltenham Bridge Club, we set up on-line sessions to keep the membership in touch with each other. I was one of the founder members of the Wessex Youth Bridge Weekend held for youngsters of any ability to come and learn how to play. I have also really loved hosting First for Bridge Holidays in recent years.
