Every year, 100 flower bulb companies and growers exhibit their spring flowering bulbs at the colourful Keukenhof Gardens. Appreciate the rich, vibrant flowers as you walk through the displays. We also visit the oldest botanical garden in The Netherlands, Hortus Botanicus, which has sections dating back to 1590 – don’t miss the Victoria Glasshouse or Japanese Garden. We take time to see the highlights of Leiden and Amsterdam, and stay at the wonderful 4-star nhow Amsterdam RAI Hotel, with breakfast and dinner included. On our final night, you can look forward to a dinner together at the Grand Café Restaurant 1ste Klas. This holiday makes the perfect spring break.

This morning, we head to the pretty town of Leiden where a local guide will take us on a walking tour, taking in many of the city’s highlights. Discover the atmospheric university city of Leiden with its countless beautiful museums, canals, and ‘hofjes’, or inner courtyards. As you will be visiting Leiden in spring, you will find yourself in the centre of the flower-bulb region. After some free time for lunch at leisure, we head to Hortus Botanicus, the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands. This amazing garden has a large collection of plant species from Asia, Southern Europe and South Africa. This is where Carolus Clusius grew Europe’s first big tulip collections. We enjoy entrance and a guided tour here plus free time to explore before returning to our hotel, where we dine together.

We include a memorable cruise through the canal network, which will offer a different perspective of the city. The canals have been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status and our relaxing cruise will reveal why - you’ll pass all the city’s highlights, including the famous 17th century canal houses as well as modern urban areas. This afternoon you are free to explore Amsterdam at your leisure. Why not admire the 17th-century merchant houses or the floating flower market, which is ablaze with colour in every season. There are many traditional and contemporary art galleries too and of course Amsterdam is a haven for shoppers.
