Southampton is the perfect location for a late summer bridge break! There is so much to do here and our characteristic hotel, the Mercure Southampton Centre Dophin Hotel, is right in the heart of this sea-faring city allowing you to explore everything with ease. Take a maritime walk around the historic harbour with its medieval walls, relax in one of the many bars and restaurants overlooking the harbour, and watch some of the largest cruise ships in the world leave to travel to all corners of the world. If you’re looking for a little down-time, the upmarket Ocean Village is the perfect spot to sit back, relax and mingle with the jet set! The city itself offers great shopping - the Westquay Shopping Centre is perfect for some great retail therapy - and boasts an abundance of leafy parks, open spaces and a host of historic buildings & museums. Follow the Titanic trail, after all it first departed Southampton in 1912, and its interactive model is on display in the Seacity Museum. The Solent Sky Museum with the iconic Spitfire is also worth a visit, as is the Beaulieu National Motor museum and the Tudor House and Gardens which displays artifacts covering 800 years of history including the penny farthing bike. If you fancy exploring outside the city, the beautiful New Forest is a short drive away or why not take a short ferry boat trip from Southampton to the Isle of Wight? We play bridge in the spacious Jane Austen Suite - a Grade II listed coaching inn with much character. The suite is named after Jane Austen in recognition that she hosted her 18th birthday party in this very hotel!
Make your own way to our hotel where, if numbers will allow, we will offer an ‘Early Bird’ afternoon session on the day of arrival. At the start of your Bridge holiday you’ll be invited to join our Bridge director and host for a welcome meeting in the hotel. Any single travellers will have the opportunity to find a partner for the Bridge room. Our Bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing Bridge, we try to include interesting Bridge seminars, hosted by your Bridge Director. Your duplicate Bridge will be available every evening between 7.45pm and 11.15pm and we endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs. Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2.30pm and 4.45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. During your Bridge holiday nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many, or as few, Bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our Bridge programmes also allow time to relax and the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
