Join Karin Hellaby in the city of Athens for this 6-night textiles and treasures holiday. Staying in the heart of Athens, enjoy exploring the city’s archaeological treasures and fascinating history, as well as the various weaving techniques, fascinating museums and exhibitions, and the art of Greek embroidery. Enjoy a workshop with Karin, delicious food in Greek taverns, and spend the day discovering the Peloponnese and visiting Epidaurus and Nafplio.
Meet Karin and your tour manager at London Heathrow airport for your flight to Athens. Arriving in the afternoon we will be transferred to our hotel, the Athenian Callirhoe. Later, we will re-group and take a stroll into the historical centre of the city, Plaka. Admire the neo-classical buildings, the narrow streets, and the numerous shops and restaurants. We will enjoy dinner together in a typical Greek tavern.
This morning we will visit several interesting museums. We begin with a visit to the National History Museum, where you will find a folklore collection of 6,000 representative examples of Neohellenic folk art spanning the period from the second half of the 18th to the end of the 20th century. After, we will visit the Benaki Museum to explore the post-byzantine and neo-hellenic art collection and the Cycladic Art Museum where we can admire exhibits artefacts, testimonies of the civilizations that flourished in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean from the 4th millennium BC.
We will return to the hotel in the afternoon and you will have the opportunity to enjoy some time at leisure
At the indicated time, transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
Tour notes: You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of this holiday. On excursion days you will need to walk a short distance from the hotel/ship to the coach and you should be able to board the coach unaided. On arrival at the excursion destination, you should be able to alight the coach unaided and there may be a walk between the coach drop off point and the excursion venue. By their nature, walking tours, museum visits etc involve being on your feet for a significant amount of time. Whilst our excursions are taken at a leisurely pace, for the enjoyment of everyone in the group you should be able to keep up with your fellow travellers.
Single Room Supplement from £459.00 (7 days).
