Experience the best of Andalusia with Pat Archibald on this 7-night quilting retreat. Staying in the heart of Ronda, one of Andalusia’s loveliest towns steeped in history, enjoy multiple workshops with Pat on the Bernina sewing machines as well as explore the charming city of Seville and village of Grazalema.
Pat is a UK textile artist and tutor based in Edinburgh. Her fascination for fabric began in her childhood when she discovered her grandmother’s scrap bag bursting at the seams with exotic fabrics and by the age of 11, she had created her first piece of patchwork. Throughout her creative career, Pat has exhibited her work worldwide, won some wonderful awards and even established Scotland’s first dedicated patchwork and quilting shop.
Pat loves to travel both around her home country as well as further afield. As her own horizons grow literally, then so too do the experiences that she can then express in her quilt making. She feels that each collection of quilts has its own unique identity and captures the essence of her view of the country or city.

Meet Pat and your Arena Travel Tour Manager at a London airport for your flight to Malaga. Upon arrival, transfer by coach to Ronda where you will check into your hotel.
This mountaintop city sits dramatically above a deep gorge. With a guide, explore Ronda’s Old Quarter which dates back to Moorish rule, and see the Church of Santa Maria La Mayor. This afternoon, we return to the hotel for our first workshop with Pat.
Travel to the city of Seville, the capital of Andalusia. This morning we will visit a local artisan embroiderer before enjoying a walking tour of Seville. Barrio de Santa Cruz is the heart of Seville and home to the Gothic-style Seville Cathedral and the Moorish-Renaissance palace, the Real Alcázar. With a guide explore the narrow, labyrinth-like streets filled with tapas bars and shops selling souvenirs and handicrafts. We will end our day with a traditional Flamenco Show!
Today enjoy a full-day workshop at the hotel with Pat.
The village of Grazalema sits in the foothills of the Sierra del Pinar Mountain range. We will visit the Grazalema Textile Museum where you can see textile machinery from the 19th century, one of the oldest woollen factories in Spain! After breakfast we will transfer to Malaga airport for our return flight to London.
Tour Notes: You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to get the most out of this holiday. On excursion days you will need to walk a short distance from the hotel to the coach and you should be able to board the coach unaided. On arrival at the excursion destination, you should be able to alight the coach unaided and there may be a walk between the coach drop off point and the excursion venue. By their nature, walking tours, museum visits etc involve being on your feet for a significant amount of time.
