Day 1: London – Milan

We’ll take the Eurostar service from London to Paris before continuing on the TGV to Milan. Here we check-in to our hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Milan – Venice

After a leisurely breakfast we’ll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Milan. The city, which is internationally famous for fashion and design, is a mix of modern skyscrapers and historical architecture. The 15th century Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is one of the highlights and the beautiful Italian Gothic-style Duomo di Milano, which took over 600 years to complete, is truly monumental. We then travel by train from Milan to Venice and board the MS Michelangelo. A welcome cocktail will be served before dinner on board this evening.

Day 3: Venice, Burano & Murano

There’s no doubting the beauty of Venice and today you may choose to join our optional excursion to discover this ‘floating city’. Probably one of the most beautiful squares in the world, Piazza San Marco, or St Mark’s Square, is graced by the magnificent 11th century Byzantine Basilica di San Marco and the soaring Campanile di San Marco. We’ll continue with a visit to the Palazzo Ducale. Known as the Doge’s Palace, this masterpiece of Gothic architecture was the former residence of the powerful Doges, who once ruled the Venetian Empire. This afternoon we’ll enjoy fabulous views of this island city as we cruise through the Venetian lagoon. There’s a second optional excursion taking you to the islands of Murano known for its long tradition of glass making, and picturesque Burano known for its colourful fishermen’s houses and delicate Burano lace.

Day 4: Venice Carnival

Today’s optional excursion uncovers the secrets of the gondolas and masquerade masks synonymous with Venice. Visit a gondola workshop and learn the secrets of this art directly from master artisans. In the 16th century, the heyday of the gondola, more than 10,000 of these elegant boats graced the city’s canals. Today only 350 remain and the coveted profession of gondolier is passed down from father to son. We then visit a Venetian Carnival mask-making workshop. Every mask is individually crafted by hand, and touches of fantasy and creativity are the features that make each unique. The afternoon and evening will be at leisure, so it’s the perfect opportunity for you to find your own traditional mask before joining the masquerade and soaking up the atmosphere of the Carnevale celebrations.

Day 5: Venice – Chioggia – Padua

Relax as we cruise to Chioggia where there’s an opportunity to join today’s optional excursion to Padua, which, from its Roman beginnings, was one of Italy’s wealthiest cities. Our guided tour shows us the popular Prato della Valle with its statue-lined waterway, elegant Neoclassical Loggia Amulea, and palaces dating from the 14th to 18th centuries. The immense Basilica di Sant’Antonio is a fantastic mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine features. Inside we’ll see notable artworks from some of Italy’s finest artists drawn to Padua in the 14th century. Admire the Renaissance grandeur as we walk through the three squares at the heart of Padua’s old city and see the Torre Dell’Orologio with its astronomical clock dating back to 1344. There’s time at leisure for you to discover more of this delightful city before we return to our ship and cruise back to Venice for a final night on board and memorable Gala Dinner.

Day 6: Venice – London

Today we bid farewell to our Captain and crew before transferring to the airport for our flight from Venice back to London.
