BRIDGE IN BOURNEMOUTH

As with all of our club standard First for Bridge holidays, this holiday uses duplimated boards during the bridge sessions, awards Masterpoints, provide hand records and are licensed by the English Bridge Union. This holiday is suitable for those who play regularly at club level.

Join our First for Bridge team, and re-unite with fellow First for Bridge travellers for an end of Season Bridge get together in Bournemouth. We will take over the hotel using all of its 52 bedrooms, and play bridge in the well-appointed Botanical Suite.

During this holiday we will offer two morning bridge seminars with our EBU qualified director, and we will have a usual First for Bridge varied programme offering daily afternoon and evening bridge sessions with Masterpoints and prizes awarded.

The Collingwood Hotel is part of the Best Western group and is very highly recommended on Trip Advisor for all of its amenities and services. It has been newly renovated and boasts an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool and Jacuzzi, and it has lovely lounges where you can sit and discuss hands with your fellow bridge friends or simply relax with a book and glass of wine in front of the fire.

It is conveniently located just 0.3 miles from the centre of Bournemouth which is a great place for Christmas shopping, and you can enjoy one of the many shows in the Pavilion or the International Centre. The festive Christmas Markets in the Square are particularly worth a visit. Last year the markets opened on 16 November so it is expected that they will fully operational in time for our bridge holiday this year. Those of you who are familiar with Dorset will know it is a hilly region, but this is easily overcome as the hotel is on the number 50 bus route into the town; taxis are readily available, and there is free parking at the hotel for those who opt to travel by car.

If the winter sun chooses to shine down on us, then keen walkers can take advantage of the numerous coastal walks this region has to offer, and the rugged beauty of the coastline leading to Ludworth Cove, Brownsea Island, and Studland Beach to name just a few places.

OPTIONAL GOLF PROGRAMME

Keen golfers will know that this region is known for its many, excellent golf courses. Please register your interest at the time of booking, once we know definite numbers of golfers we can arrange a programme of golf sessions and block tee times.

OUR BRIDGE PROGRAMMES

During your duplicate bridge holidays nothing is obligatory, you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break and in addition to playing bridge, we will always endeavour to provide a minimum of two morning bridge seminars for breaks of up to 7 days.

All of our bridge holidays include bridge seminars with handouts in addition to a varied and interesting duplicate bridge programme. We use duplimated boards every evening to ensure fairness and consistency. Bridge hand records are provided, as well as bridge partners if needed.

Your duplicate bridge will be available twice daily, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. The afternoon sessions usually finish between 4.45pm and 5pm, the evenings between 10.45pm - 11.15pm. The afternoons are normally given over to open pairs/teams. We endeavour to vary the evening sessions, with a balance between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week bridge break.

During all evening sessions, we utilise a duplimate machine, which means we are able to produce hand record sheets at the end of the session and when we have two or more sections, both can play the same hands. On our UK duplicate bridge breaks, provided numbers allow, we usually will lay on an "Early Bird" afternoon session on the day of arrival, and arrange a welcome drink and get together for everyone before our first evening meal, so we can briefly run through the programme and partners can be found where needed.

We don’t forget you are on holiday, our bridge programmes allow time for relaxation plus giving you plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area and relax.

ADDITIONAL FACILITIES AND DINING:

The Executive Head Chef Manash and his team are proud of their dining reputation, and offer guests a true Dorset experience, making use of its coastline, farms and fields to showcase the best of their local products.

We dine at 18.00 prior to our bridge session. Dinner is served to the table and there is a choice of 3 starters, 5 main courses including a vegetarian dish and 5 desserts. Before dinner why not join your fellow bridge players for a cocktail or aperitif in the bar? - Happy Hour is 17.00 - 18.00 hours, and the bar will also be available after your bridge session for a late evening drink.

Breakfast is server from 07.30 -09.30 and there is a buffet choice of cereal, and yoghurts plus a full a la carte breakfast menu.

The hotel also offers unlimited access to its guests for use of the indoor pool; hot tub; sauna and fitness centre.

IMPORTANT

We can accommodate 22 tables in the bridge room, but realistically we will need to restrict the number of tables to 16 or 17 as we will have a high demand for single occupancy rooms which we will do our best to accommodate. (For this reason we recommend early booking when possible).

WHEELCHAIR USERS

Although the hotel is wheelchair friendly and they have some accessible rooms, access to the bridge room is via a stair lift followed by a few steps where the stair lift ends. For this reason we regret that the hotel will be unsuitable for bridge players who are wheelchair bound.
