Join us on our very first bridge holiday on the idyllic Channel Island of Guernsey.

During our stay we are invited by CICBA, Guernsey Contract Bridge Association, to join them in their annual GREEN POINT event on 28 March 2020, and your entrance fee is included in your holiday package.

Guernsey is a smaller island than its neighbour Jersey, and it is simply unspoilt and beautiful. Lying not far from the Normandy coast it has a tidal range of 33 feet, one of the largest in the world, and this transforms its impressive coastline, which has no less than 27 different bays, every 6 hours.

We visit late March and because spring arrives 4 weeks earlier in Guernsey than on mainland Britain, the fields and hedgerows come alive with fauna and wild flowers.

This little island which is just 9 miles long by 3 miles wide is packed with attractions. An absolute must is a visit to St Peter Port where its harbour is guarded by the 800 year old fortress Castle Cornet. Stroll through its cobbled streets, admire the Regency architecture or hop on the ferry across to the island of Sark. It really is one of the most picturesque harbour towns in Europe.

Guernsey was occupied for most of the Second World War from 30 June 1940 until liberation on 9 May 1945, and many of the bunkers and fortifications can still be seen dotted around the coastline. There are absorbing museums to visit dedicated to the occupation of Guernsey during this period.

We stay at the lovely Peninsula hotel which is ideally located on the north coast overlooking the bay of Grand Harve - a perfect spot for coastal walks, and golfers will find the Royal Guernsey Golf Club just 2 miles from the hotel. The hotel is highly rated on TripAdvisor and has received a Certificate of Excellence.

Getting around is simple. There is a bus stop close to the hotel and regular buses stop here that cover different routes around the island, and go into St Peter Port, that can be reached in 20 minutes. Bus tickets are £2 for any journey. There is a Guernsey sightseeing route that goes all the way around the island.

If you choose to hire a car then you still drive on the left and the maximum speed limit on the island is just 35 miles per hour. Whichever you choose nowhere is far!

During your duplicate bridge holidays nothing is obligatory, you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break and in addition to playing bridge, we will always endeavour to provide a minimum of two bridge seminars for breaks of 7 days or more.

All of our bridge holidays include bridge seminars with handouts in addition to a varied and interesting duplicate bridge programme. We use duplimated boards every evening to ensure fairness and consistency. Bridge hand records are provided, as well as bridge partners if needed.

Your duplicate bridge will usually be available twice daily, at 2.30pm and 7.45pm. The afternoon sessions usually finish between 4.45pm and 5pm, the evenings between 10.45pm - 11.15pm. The afternoons are normally given over to open pairs/teams. We endeavour to vary the evening sessions, with a balance between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week bridge break.

During all evening sessions, we utilise a duplimate machine, which means we are able to produce hand record sheets at the end of the session and when we have two or more sections, both can play the same hands. On our UK duplicate bridge breaks, provided numbers allow, we usually will lay on an "Early Bird" afternoon session on the day of arrival.

We don’t forget you are on holiday, our bridge programmes allow time for relaxation plus giving you plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area and relax.

The Bar du Nord is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail or discuss your bridge hands. The focal point of the bar is a 100 year old olive tree, and sitting either side of the wood burner is very cosy and atmospheric. The bar is stylish and contemporary yet still traditional.

The main restaurant looks out over the gardens, and is modern and light. Here we choose from the English and continental breakfast selection each morning and dine at 6pm in the evening prior to bridge. We have an excellent conference suite for our bridge sessions.

Other facilities in the hotel include an outdoor heated pool (in summer only), volleyball court, mini golf, table tennis and petanque. Cycle hire can be arranged at reception (charge) and the hotel also boasts a self-service laundry room.
