This holiday is a little special and unique. Our annual bridge holiday to the lovely Chateau des Comtes de Challes is always popular and we fill our 15 tables in the bridge room.

Situated in the Rhone Alps with stunning views over the valley and mountain peaks, from its terraces where you can relax and also enjoy the outdoor swimming pool.

This 15th century chateau has been lovingly restored to reflect its history with the period fireplace and exposed beams in the dining room, and the stone columns and flooring haven’t budged. The Family Treves is proud to welcome you to their chateau. Monsieur Treves, a former member of the French Olympic Ski Team loves to advise you about the wonderful walking trails in this region, and the hotel sommelier will introduce you to its grand selection of wines on a tour of the cellars of the chateau, where you will taste 3 different wines of Savoy.

INCLUDED - an excursion to Chambery where you can shop on market day and have a guided tour of this historical old town with its cathedral and narrow alleyways, Piedmont-inspired mansions and picturesque squares.

INCLUDED - an excursion to the thermal town of Aix-les-Bains. As well as having time to spend in the port and you will have an included boat trip on Lake Bourget to Hautecombe Abbey where we take a audio guided tour.

INCLUDED - a wine tasting in chateau cellars.

The gourmet restaurant serves delicious traditional and regional cuisine inspired by the best products and produce available in the region. Each dish is given special care to continue the notable reputation of the establishment.

We play bridge in the Granier Room in the Orangerie which can accommodate up to 20 tables.

A short 10 minute walk will take you into the centre of Challes-les-Eaux, which is a spa and resort town situated in the valley of the Bauges close to Chambery. Here you can take a bath in the sulphur rich waters of the thermal baths or chance your luck at the casino, or take a leisurely walk through the park or around the lake. There is a small selection of shops in the typical French town that include a patisserie, boulangerie, tabac, bank & supermarket and a couple of cafes and pizzeria.

There are many beautiful walks in this region and the hotel staff would be delighted to assist you with suggestions for walks and trails. We include a visit to delightful Chambery, on Saturday which is market day. There will be leisure time to browse and explore this quaint old town after a guided tour where you will hear all about its long rich history. We also include a visit to Grenoble where we hop aboard the little train of Grenoble for an effortless discovery of the history & heritage of the capital of the Alps.

A popular optional tour is a visit to Annecy, “The Venice of the Alps” with its old town crossed by numerous canals, situated on the banks of Lake Annecy with its medieval arcades, bridges and flower-decked quays.

During your duplicate bridge holidays nothing is obligatory, you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break and in addition to playing bridge, we will always endeavour to provide a minimum of two bridge seminars for breaks of 7 days or more.

All of our bridge holidays include bridge seminars with handouts in addition to a varied and interesting duplicate bridge programme. We use duplimated boards every evening to ensure fairness and consistency. Bridge hand records are provided, as well as bridge partners if needed.

Your duplicate bridge will usually be available twice daily, at 2.30pm and 7.45pm. The afternoon sessions usually finish between 4.45pm and 5pm, the evenings between 10.45pm - 11.15pm. The afternoons are normally given over to open pairs/teams. We endeavour to vary the evening sessions, with a balance between teams and pairs, with at least one Swiss style event during a two-week bridge break.

During all evening sessions, we utilise a duplimate machine, which means we are able to produce hand record sheets at the end of the session and when we have two or more sections, both can play the same hands. On our UK duplicate bridge breaks, provided numbers allow, we usually will lay on an "Early Bird" afternoon session on the day of arrival.

We don’t forget you are on holiday, our bridge programmes allow time for relaxation plus giving you plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding area and relax.

Breakfast is usually taken in the Summer Garden or on the terraces. It is continental with a wonderful range of French pastries, croissants, pain au chocolat and breads, cereals, cheeses, and cold meats, fruits and juices and honey from the hotels own hives. Scrambled egg is served from 08.00 am. The chateau can arrange optional light lunches, which are usually pre bookable, and a limited option of snacks and sandwiches during the day.

The hotel consists of 3 buildings situated close to each other: the main chateau, the Demeure du Parc and the Orangerie. Important - there is only one lift which is situated in the building Demeure du Parc, and there are some ground floor rooms in the Orangerie. Other rooms in the main chateau and the Orangerie are accessed by steps (1 or 2 floors). Therefore it is very important you advise us if you have any walking difficulties so we can arrange for you to have a suitable room. The access around the chateau on the ground floor is excellent, flat with ramps to all areas and easy access to bridge room. The Chateau has 2 disabled rooms.
