A wonderfully relaxing trip to historic Carcassonne in France’s sunny south-west corner to savour the amazing architecture and atmosphere of this World Heritage Site, enjoy the luxury of a top-class hotel and indulge in four days of quilting.

Carcassonne really is a fantastic sight to behold and on this tour we not only stay right in the historic heart of the medieval fortress town, we quilt there too. The patio doors of our workshop room lead to the tranquil hotel garden; a perfect location to focus on our projects. Carolyn Forster will be on hand to teach new techniques and lend her expertise, and there are Bernina machines to work on.

We'll also enjoy an excursion to Mirepoix and Lavalanet and an introductory walking tour of medieval Carcassonne. You’ll also have time some free time to wander the perfectly preserved cobbled streets here; the ideal opportunity to unwind.

INCLUDING WORKSHOPS WITH CAROLYN

A great opportunity to spend the week fully immersed in Quilt As You Go and Quilt As You Sew style quilts and achieve some great results using these portable and manageable methods of quilt construction. Using the sewing machines provided or stitch and quilt by hand, Carolyn will be on hand to guide you through the processes and give helpful hints and tips along the way.

DAY 1: LONDON - CARCASSONNE

Meet Carolyn and our Tour Manager at Heathrow airport for our flight to Toulouse. Our coach and driver will meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel. A 3-course evening meal is included this evening.

DAYS 2 & 3: STITCHING WORKSHOPS

Full day workshops with Carolyn with use of Bernina machines.

DAY 4: CARCASSONNE

This morning we’ll take a break from our projects and enjoy a walking tour of medieval Carcassonne. Our guide will take us through 2500 years of history as we visit the highlights of the old town.

The afternoon is yours to do as you wish; continue your exploration of Carcassonne or return to the hotel to relax or continue work on your projects.

DAY 5: STITCHING WORKSHOP

Full day workshop with Carolyn with use of Bernina machines.

DAY 6: MIREPOIX

Today we’ll visit Mirepoix; a beautiful medieval bastide town and an important textile centre in the 15th century. The highlight of the ancient town is the central square which is surrounded by medieval timber-framed houses and covered walkways. We’ll take some time to admire the woodwork involved in these houses, much of the carpentry and decorative features have fascinating detail. The café terraces and shops make it a lovely spot to visit. We’ll round off our day out with a guided visit of the textile museum at Lavelanet, housed in the town’s first textile factory. The visit will take us from the Middles Ages to the 20th Century with demonstrations showing each stage of the fabric making process; from spinning through to dyeing and weaving.

DAY 7: STITCHING WORKSHOPS

Full day workshop with Carolyn with use of Bernina machines.
