Set sail from Passau and embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Europe! Discover the delights of the famous Danube as you explore scenic and historical stops along the way. Take in the beauty of the Wachau Valley as we visit the Austrian town of Melk and enjoy full days in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Vienna and breathtakingly beautiful Budapest. This enthralling river adventure also takes us to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava and the cobbled streets of Durnstein.

Included sightseeing excursions will give you the chance to explore the Benedictine Abbey in Melk and enjoy charming city tours of Vienna and Budapest. Your holiday also includes exclusive textile-related excursions in Vienna and Budapest as well as three half day workshops with Lisa as we cruise between our ports of call, enjoying the scenery as we go.

"Just what you need – another obsession! This workshop will teach the basics of bead embroidery and variations including attaching cabochons. The sampler made in class will be the starting point for many wonderful future projects as well as a piece of art in itself. As an added bonus you will also make a beaded button using your newfound beading skills. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and will cover the following techniques:

  • Seed Stitch
  • Stop Stitch
  • Lazy Stitch
  • Dangles or fringing
  • Writing with beads
  • Kaleidoscope patterns
  • Raised or elevated beading"

Meet with Lisa and your Tour Manager at London Heathrow for our flight to Munich. Transfer by coach to Passau, where we embark our floating home, MS Arena. This evening we’ll enjoy dinner in the Panorama restaurant and chat to our fellow passengers as we glide down the Danube towards Melk.

This morning we arrive in the small town of Melk, which lies in the beautiful Wachau valley. Here we’ll visit the Benedictine Abbey, one of the most famous monastic houses in Austria, occupied by monks for over 900 years. This afternoon we’ll enjoy our first workshop with Lisa as we cruise towards Vienna.

Grand palaces, baroque castles, magnificent squares and striking monuments are just some of the things that we’ll see on this morning’s included city tour.

After lunch on board we return to the city to visit the MAK Museum on our exclusive included excursion. The museum is home to an unparalleled collection of applied arts, design, architecture and contemporary art. Our visit will concentrate on the Textiles and Carpets collection, one of the most comprehensive and valuable of its time. The collection contains objects from Late Antiquity to the present day from Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

In the early evening we cast off and cruise towards Budapest.

Today we arrive into Budapest. After lunch on board we’ll enjoy our exclusive included excursion to the Goldberger Textile Museum. This museum tells the story of Hungary's textile industry and of the textile factory founded by Jewish entrepreneur Ferenc Goldberger in 1784, which dominated Hungary's clothing industry until the late 20th century. Learn through interactive exhibits, check out the revolutionary machinery (for its time) and marvel at the gorgeous fabric samples.

After a relaxing dinner on board, this evening you can join an optional excursion to experience Budapest by night with a traditional folklore show (additional cost applies).

This morning we enjoy some more time in Budapest with an included excursion to this fascinating city. Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with an extensive area recognised as a World Heritage Site. We'll explore both sides of Hungary’s capital, divided by the Danube, traditional Buda and the more cosmopolitan Pest.

This afternoon we’ll enjoy our second workshop with Lisa as we cruise towards Bratislava.

This morning we’ll enjoy a walking tour of this historic city, dominated by its castle and suspension bridge. We’ll also sample ‘Makovka; a sweet white chocolate with poppy seed filling. We return to the ship for lunch and the afternoon is free to explore Bratislava at your leisure.

This evening we cruise towards Durnstein.

The town of Durnstein nestles among Austria’s most famous vineyards and is crowned by the ruins of the castle that once imprisoned Richard the Lionheart. It’s a beautiful place filled with cobbled streets, pretty courtyards and 16th century houses. We’ll have some free time here before setting sail for Passau.

As we cruise towards Passau, we’ll enjoy our final half-day workshop with Lisa.

This morning we disembark and transfer by coach to Munich airport for our return flight to London.
