Join Victoria on this wonderful Stitchtopia holiday to Nantes for a 6-night stay in the heart of this historical city. Pour l’Amour du Fil, or ‘for the love of threads’, is a fascinating international show for thread-based arts. Patchwork, quilting, sewing, embroidery, home décor and knitting are all represented at the show, attracting some of the world’s best-known experts and visitors from across the Globe. As well as a full day at the show, you can hone your own stitching skills in four half-day workshops hosted by Victoria and discover the best of the local area. We’ll explore the historic centre of Nantes on foot, visit the textile museum in Cholet, and enjoy a full day excursion along the banks of the River Sevre with lunch in the delightful town of Clisson and winetasting at one of the regions wineries.

DAY 1: LONDON - NANTES

Meet Victoria and our Tour Manager at London Gatwick airport for the flight to Nantes. On arrival we’ll transfer to our hotel in the heart of the city. Get to know Victoria and your fellow stitchers at this evening’s welcome dinner, which is served in the hotel.

DAY 2: NANTES | STITCHING WORKSHOP

This morning we’ll enjoy a guided walking tour of Nantes, visiting the three main historical quarters in the city, dating from the Middle Ages and 18th and 19th centuries. The tour will finish at Nantes’ iconic castle, Le Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne. The castle was built at the end of the 15th century by Francois II and his daughter, Anne de Bretagne. After free time for lunch we’ll meet at the hotel for the first of our hand-stitching workshops. Victoria will introduce a specially designed project for this French holiday. The evening is at leisure.

DAY 3: STITCHING WORKSHOP | CHOLET

Join Victoria for the second of her workshops in the hotel. This afternoon we’ll travel by coach to Cholet for a guided tour of the town’s Textile Museum. Housed in a former textile bleaching factory, the museum presents an overview of Cholet’s textile industry and its techniques. The famous ‘Red Handkerchief of Cholet’ is still woven here. The evening is at leisure and you may wish to try one of the many fine restaurants near our hotel.

DAY 4: POUR L’AMOUR DU FIL

Today we visit ‘Pour L’Amour du Fil’. At this excellent venue, enjoy exhibitions featuring the works of guest artists and designers from around the world. The theme of this year’s show is ‘The British Isles’ and we’ll see the many different ways this has been interpreted in the different modes of textiles. There is also a beautiful shopping area dedicated to all things fibre!

DAY 5: CLISSON

Today we’ll travel by coach along the banks of the River Sevre to the picturesque medieval town of Clisson. Today is market day and we’ll enjoy some time at leisure before a delicious local lunch. A guided walking tour introduces the history and highlights of Clisson. On our return journey we stop at a winery for a tasting for some of the local wines from this renowned wine-growing region.
