Armistice in Myanmar – Burma Campaign, led by Mike Bradley

In December 1941 Japanese forces invaded Burma, catapulting the nation that was part of the British Empire into the Second World War. By March 1942 the Japanese had captured the capital city of Rangoon and they began to drive the British out of the country up through appalling conditions in the Irrawaddy and Sittang valleys until defeated British forces finally retreated all the way across the Indian border. After their retreat, British forces in India immediately started forming plans to recapture Burma and in the early months of 1943 Operation Longcloth began. Thousands of miles away from the battles in Western Europe, the British campaign to push the Japanese out of Burma was the longest and bloodiest of the Second World War.
