Piers Storie-Pugh OBE

Piers comes from a military family. His grandfather, who was severely wounded in the Great War, wrote a diary that Piers shares on tour, whilst his father, who was a Prisoner of War and tried to escape Colditz 21 times without success, was awarded the Military Cross and the MBE (for gallantry). Piers did a short commission with 1st Battalion The Queens Regiment in Germany, West Belfast, Canada, Denmark and the German Parachute School in Bavaria. He subsequently returned to the Territorial Army and commanded his own battalion. His last appointment was Dep Comd 2nd Infantry Brigade as Full Colonel.

One of the longest serving remembrance and battlefield guides, Piers has led groups of war widows, relatives, veterans, historians and students on tours worldwide. In 2005 he wrote the blueprint for ‘Heroes Return’, an MoD/Big Lottery initiative enabling veterans to return to where they fought, and concurrently ‘Their Past Your Future’ for students. In 1995, Piers was appointed The Reserve Forces Representative on the Control Board of the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, and in 2011 he was appointed Chief Executive of ‘The Not Forgotten’ – a tri-service charity for the wounded founded in 1920, which he ran for five years before becoming Vice President. Highly enthusiastic, energetic and engaging, Piers - a member of The International Guild of Battlefield Guides, is also a well-known public speaker.
