Between Ypres & the Somme – Loos, Arras & Cambrai, led by Peter McLelland

Believed by many to be ‘The War to End All Wars’, the Great War of 1914 – 1918 was one of the most significant conflicts of the 20th century. Thanks to the new military technologies of its time and the horrors of trench warfare, the levels of carnage and destruction were unprecedented. By the time the war was over and Allied powers claimed victory, more than 16 million people – soldiers and civilians alike – were dead. Ultimately it was Germany’s inability to defeat Allied forces fighting in France and Flanders that determined the war’s outcome.

This special Remembrance Tour focuses on the less visited battlefields between Ypres and the Somme. We explore the Battle of Arras, Battle of Loos and Battle of Cambrai. Through visits to historic sites, poignant memorials, fascinating museums and international war cemeteries, we come to understand the significance of battles that claimed the lives of thousands of men from all sides. Private Services of Remembrance are a chance to honour the fallen, and those with a personal connection may wish to pay their personal respects at the grave or memorial to a loved one.
