Things to know

  • Many Icelanders believe in the mythical creatures, elves, and trolls. The belief in such beings’ dates to Viking times and there are some truly fantastic stories about them
  • Due to its volcanic landscape, many geo-thermic pools can be found in Iceland. The most famous is the Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik. Make sure you bring your bathers and take a dip!
  • From 1915 until 1989, Iceland went through a prohibition of beer!  Now, each year on the first of March the country celebrates “Bjórdagurinn” or “Beer Day” celebrating the end of the 74-year ban
  • From September to March each year, the Northern Lights can be seen in Iceland
