Emma Leith

Emma Leith is a crochet designer, author and regular contributor to Simply Crochet Magazine (Immediate Media). Her work is a celebration of colour and an expression of her desire to create meaning and joy in all that she does. Inspired by Einsteins quote “Creativity is contagious pass it on” participants in her workshops feel treasured and valued by her happy demeanour and upbeat approach. Emma’s focus on the mindfulness aspect of working with yarn and colour gives an added dimension to her classes where participants enjoy a warm welcome, a space to breathe and a boost in confidence.

Internationally renowned for her yarn-bombing exploits Emma has worked on numerous large scale commissioned yarn installations and gives regular talks and presentations on this popular movement. She works closely with Rico Design Yarns, Deramores and Simply Crochet producing projects that keep crochet fresh and exciting as it continues to enjoy its resurgence in popularity.

Itinerary

Skill level: Confident beginners who have mastered the granny square as well as intermediate crocheters who are looking to explore shaping and working with colour.

Techniques covered: Crocheting around wire hoops, double, half treble and treble crochet together with puff stitch, surface crochet and incorporating beads into your work. Working increases and decrease to sculpt and shape your work as well as the simple maths behind the pattern that will help you explore shaping with confidence.

What to bring: 3mm and 3.5mm hook, yarn needle and scissors.

Check in to your room from 3pm. Join Emma, your retreat manager and fellow guests for dinner this evening.

We begin our day with a colourful lantern worked around a circular frame using a selection of Ricorumi Cotton DK. The written pattern has easy to follow step by step instructions and photographs and Emma will guide you every step of the way. This is a day of colour, relaxation and fun as you explore the different stitches before working your beaded border.

There will also be an opportunity to explore the ins and outs of choosing colours in an attempt to demystify the thinking behind selecting colour palettes for your future projects.

Crochet Lanterns Workshop

This workshop begins with a new pattern that incorporates stitch increases and decreases to create a lobster pot style lantern worked around a variety of hoop sizes. You will be shown how the maths works to enable you to shape your work to fit any frame size, opening the way for you create a unique piece of sculptural crochet.

This is an opportunity to up your crochet game whilst enjoying the mindful flow of the rhythmic pattern that you continue and complete from home.
