Five Star Bridge in Port El Kantaoui

The 5-star Barcelo Concorde Green Park Palace is probably the best located hotel in Port El Kantaoui, as it is one of the few hotels within walking distance of its popular marina, making it really easy to get around the resort.

What a location! Set in 5 hectares of lush gardens where the palm trees tower majestically around the huge 1500 metre outdoor pool which leads down to its own fine sandy beach. It borders two 18-hole golf courses, so keen golfers do not even have to take a transfer to enjoy a few games of golf. The hotel offers extensive facilities that include a top of the range spa and indoor and outdoor pools. We play bridge in the Versailles Room and can enjoy the excellent all-inclusive drinks up until midnight.

To enable you to make the most of your stay, and see some incredible sights and experience the Tunisian way of life, we have two fabulous INCLUDED excursions. We visit the UNESCO site in El Jem on day 4, where you will view the third largest Roman amphitheatre in the world and visit the stunning Mosaic Museum where our knowledgeable local guide will delve into the history of the beautiful mosaics and life in the Roman villas.

Our second excursion on day 7 takes us to the fascinating Medina of Sousse, where you can barter for goods and admire the local way of life. We also stop in Monastir and visit the incredible mausoleum of Bourguiba and view the Ribat.

John and Sarah Barker

John and Sarah Barker

Passionate about bridge, John is a fully qualified professional bridge teacher and runs his own bridge club where he also teaches. He has worked within the travel industry all his life - Area Manager for Crystal Ski Holidays in the Alps, photographer on cruise ships, and running his own very successful photography business. He plays regularly for Norfolk and is either playing or teaching bridge nearly every day of the week. Before bridge, John also represented his county at both chess and field hockey.

When Sarah is not playing bridge, she is an independent funeral and wedding celebrant. Prior to this, she has been responsible for all the weddings in Norfolk and was also a school nurse. She brings her people skills and organisation to help make sure everyone has a fabulous holiday.

Sarah Amos

Sarah Amos

Sarah is the third generation of her family to be hooked on bridge, following after her mother and grandparents. She started playing over 35 years ago and began teaching and directing not long after. She is probably best known as a top-level Tournament Director in both Wales and England. Sarah has been trying to play more bridge since moving to South Wales five years ago and is delighted to have made it to the Welsh Lady Milne twice.

She spent a large portion of her working life helping to run a family restaurant with her brother, sister-in-law and mother and really enjoyed managing the front of house and assisting with wedding and events planning.

All of her work now involves various aspects of bridge, directing all sort of events from club games through congresses to internationals; teaching beginners and improvers; and latterly helping players and clubs get online and keep playing through the pandemic.

Itinerary

Depart the UK and arrive into Tunisia where you will transfer to your hotel upon arrival.

The included flights depart from London Gatwick. Flights from Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham are available at a supplement.

Includes Dinner

Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, we try to include interesting bridge seminars, hosted by your EBU-qualified director.

Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and featuring at least one Swiss event during a two-week break.

Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. On UK holidays, bridge sessions may take place in the mornings instead of the afternoons, complimenting any included excursion programme.

Masterpoints are awarded on evening bridge sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.

During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area

Day 4: El Jem

This circuit to El-Jem allows you to discover its huge coliseum. The Coliseum of El Jem is simply the third largest amphitheatre in the Roman world after those of Rome and Capua, and perhaps the best preserved. Indeed, his visit amazes with its architecture and the genius developed for its construction. The Thydrus, antique considered by its colized of elliptic form, being 149m long on 124m broad and 26m height, comprises 3 stages galleries and can contain 30.000 spectators. The site is logically classified as World Heritage by UNESCO since 1979.

Day 7: Monastir and Sousse

Today, visit the city of Monastir while passing by the coast [SousseMonastir] and admire one of the most cult cities of Tunisia. You can take advantage of your day to see the Ribat of Monastir, the mausoleum of Bourguiba, one of the largest fish markets in Tunisia and the Marina of Monastir. On the way back you will have a stopover at the Medina of Sousse, the ideal place to do your shopping and admire the local life of Tunisia.
