Join us on our second Bridge and Rail Holiday - this time we include a scenic drive in the Peak District and an included visit to historic Chatsworth House and Gardens, as well as a ride on the heritage Butterley Midland Railway.

We stay at Eastwood Hall Hotel, Nottinghamshire, which is beautifully located in 26 acres of landscaped gardens where you can walk and relax and enjoy your surroundings. It is also a 15 minute walk from central Eastwood, the birthplace of D H Lawrence, and here you will find a museum dedicated to this famous author and a good selection of shops, restaurants and cafes in the small town.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Make your own way to Eastwood Hall Hotel, and meet our bridge director and host before dining and evening bridge. There will also be a short afternoon session for those who arrive early and wish to play.

DAY 2: A DAY AT LEISURE

A day to relax in the hotel, explore the surrounding area or enjoy a full day of bridge with our EBU qualified bridge director and friendly host. There will be a morning seminar followed by afternoon bridge, dinner and evening bridge.

DAY 3: A TRIP ON THE EAST MIDLAND RAILWAY & A VISIT TO MATLOCK BATH

This morning after breakfast we take the coach to Butterley and let the Midland Railway diesel train transport us back into a bygone era. We stop at Swanwick Junction where we have an included visit to the museum complex in which you will find the Matthew Kirtley Railway Museum, the demonstration signal box, and the Victorian Railwayman’s Church amongst many other heritage sights.

From here we drive on to picturesque Matlock Bath which is set in the beautiful gorge of the River Dewent and has been a popular tourist destination since the late 17th Century when the spa waters were discovered here.

We return to our hotel for dinner and evening bridge.

DAY 4: CHATSWORTH HOUSE & A SCENIC DRIVE THROUGH THE PEAK DISTRICT

We spend a morning at the historic Chatsworth House with plenty of time for you to explore over 30 rooms of elegant interiors, one of Europe’s most significant art collections, and fascinating stories of 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The beautiful gardens with their historic waterworks, sculptures and Victorian rock garden is not to be missed.

Afterwards we take a scenic journey by coach through the Peak District before returning to our hotel for dinner and evening bridge.

DAY 5: A FULL DAY OF BRIDGE

Today we offer another full day of bridge; Morning seminar, afternoon bridge, dinner and evening bridge. Or if you wish, you can just relax and enjoy the excellent leisure facilities at Eastwood Hall Hotel. Your stay will include complimentary access to the Leisure Club with free use of a very good indoor pool, steam room, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, sauna and outdoor tennis court.

The hotel also boasts an exceptionally good “Beauty Retreat”, where you can treat yourself to a day of pampering with a choice of massages and treatments. There is also a hair salon and nail bar.

DAY 6: DEPARTURE

After breakfast you are free to check out our hotel and depart at leisure.

The location of Eastwood Hall Hotel is stunning. It is set in 26 acres of landscaped gardens, where you can walk, play tennis or sit and relax and enjoy beautiful scenery.

It’s restaurant offers tasty meals with local produce. Buffet breakfast features a range of hot and cold breakfast items, including all of the full English favourites. Evening meal is buffet selection served at 18.00 hours prior to our evening bridge sessions. Lighter meals can be purchased at lunchtime from the bar menu including deli sandwiches, salads, pizza and gourmet burgers.

We play bridge in the spacious Chatterley Suite where we have unlimited table numbers. Guests have complimentary access to the Leisure Club with free use of indoor pool, Jacuzzi, gymnasium, sauna and outdoor tennis court.

All rooms are accessible by lift and we have 28 ground floor rooms. Please advise us if you have any walking difficulties and we will request a room close to main facilities, as some rooms are closer than others.

GETTING TO THE HOTEL

Eastwood Hall Hotel is located close to Eastwood, and the nearest train station is Langley Mill which is just 2 miles away. From here it is 10 minutes by taxi to the hotel. (Please note taxis need to be booked in advance as there is no taxi rank at the station, and there is also no lift at the station so you need to manage steps here). Nottingham railway station is 11 miles from the hotel, and Derby station is 12 miles. If you arrive by car junction 26/27 of the M1 is a 10 minute drive. There are plenty of complimentary car parking spaces on site.
