Experts
Nigel Durie

Nigel Durie

Nigel and his wife, Pauline, have been playing bridge in the Darlington area for the past 35 years and have always been involved with the day-to-day running of local clubs and in organising local competitions. They have been with First for Bridge for the last seven years and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to ensure that our guests have a very enjoyable experience on our holidays. Due to deteriorating vision, Pauline no longer hosts or plays bridge competitively.

Nigel is a qualified county director who has been a fixture of the NEBA Congress for the last 20 years and has also directed the wide variety of North East competitions. He has just finished his stint as the North East County Chairman. Both Nigel and Pauline have retired from teaching backgrounds in a nearby Sixth Form College and although Nigel continues in a marking role for the International Baccalaureate Exam Board his main passion in life these days lies on the croquet lawn.

Maggie Pyner

Maggie Pyner

Maggs has a teaching background in science and maths progressing to work with Ofsted and running her own business in children’s nurseries. She has played bridge for over forty years, being a life master and playing at county level representing Norfolk, with her late husband John where they moved to for their retirement.

Maggs became a panel director for the EBU and alongside her husband John, who was a National EBU director, ran bridge congresses all over the country alongside holidays abroad and cruises. She also was involved with John in training and guiding bridge players through the club director training and assessment courses. She really enjoyed supporting players in developing their director skills.

Since John passed away Maggs has returned to the Midlands to be nearer her daughter.

Her hobbies, apart from bridge, include caring for her grandchildren, gardening and ‘whizzing’ around the countryside on her E bike and in her electric car visiting family and friends.

Maggs is really looking forward to meeting new people and renewing old acquaintances on the bridge scene.

Jacky Baker

Jacky Baker

Jacky has wonderful memories of working on bridge holidays over the years. She has been playing bridge for as long as she can remember and has many triumphs at congresses around the country. She also plays for her county of Somerset.

She is looking forward to meeting new and old friends on her next holiday.
