Situated in the heart of the Victorian spa town of Harrogate this hotel is the perfect location for our 4- night stay. The Crowne Plaza hotel has 214 bedrooms, Springs Restaurant, and Springs Bar & Terrace, ideal for a relaxing drink. We play bridge in the spacious Harewoood Suite. The hotel is situated only five minutes from Harrogate town centre and ten minutes stroll from the train station, and is situated next to Harrogate Convention Centre. Your duplicate Bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. The duplicate bridge on the bridge and rail holiday will be Pairs. During your Bridge holiday nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many, or as few, Bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our Bridge programmes also allow time to relax and the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area. Chris and Linda Benneworth
Linda and Chris have been married since 1971, having met while they were teaching at the same high school.
Following successful careers in education they retired in the late nineties, when they started directing together, working at first in local and more recently in overseas congresses. They ran the North Eastern Bridge Association Congress for a number of years in Otterburn, Consett and Gateshead, an event with a deserved reputation for friendliness. Since 2019, they have worked as hosts and director at EBU overseas congresses in Athens, Sicily and Rome. They even play together occasionally to ensure there are full tables. Chris is an EBU national director who also teaches others the art of directing and Linda is a qualified County director.
They both believe that bridge is a great game which is meant to be enjoyed; a holiday is the perfect way of doing that.

This morning we are Joined by Local blue badge guides, as we head off on foot, for a walking tour of Harrogate. Set in the heart of North Yorkshire, our tour takes us around this elegant Victorian Spa Town. Your guides will bring the history to life as you stroll past the sights of the 17 acres Valley Gardens, Royal pump room, Montpellier quarter and so much more. Feel free to stay for the length of the tour, or leave the tour at a point that suits you, it’s your day after all. This afternoon & this evening join us for Bridge in the hotel.

Overview
Today, we head by coach to Newby Hall, the family home of Mr & Mrs Richard Compton. Built in the 1690’s by Sir Christopher Wren the house was later adapted by John Carr and Subsequently Robert Adam. Newby Hall is one of Britain's finest Adam Houses along with award winning Gardens. We enjoy an included guided tour of the house, before exploring at leisure the 25-acre gardens along with the Sculpture Park, and not forgetting the Dollshouse exhibition. The Garden Restaurant serves refreshments daily and the shop at Newby Hall is worth a browse.
After our visit the coach returns us back to the hotel for afternoon Bridge.
