EBU Congress on the Bay of Kotor
Join us for the anticipated EBU Congress in beautiful Montenegro. Expertly planned by experienced directors, our varied bridge programme features a mixture of green and blue pointed events, including Open Pairs, IMP Pairs, Swiss style, and round robin multiple teams sessions. Our base for the congress is the 4-star Carine Hotel Kumbor, which boasts an unrivalled seafront location in with a private beach, three infinity swimming pools, and excellent dining options. Be sure to explore nearby Herceg-Novi, with its stunning Old Town, magnificent fortress and winding streets. With included excursions to the ever-popular coastal resort of Budva, and Kotor – one of the most picturesque towns in the country – you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic experience. Please note: to attend this Congress, you need to be a member of the English Bridge Union.

Chris and Linda Benneworth
Linda and Chris have been married since 1971, having met while they were teaching at the same high school.
Following successful careers in education, they retired in the late nineties and started directing together, working at first in local and more recently in overseas congresses. They ran the North Eastern Bridge Association Congress for a number of years in Otterburn, Consett and Gateshead, an event with a deserved reputation for friendliness. Since 2019, they have worked as hosts and director at EBU overseas congresses in Athens, Sicily and Rome. They even play together occasionally to ensure there are full tables. Chris is an EBU national director who also teaches others the art of directing and Linda is a qualified county director.
They both believe that bridge is a great game which is meant to be enjoyed, and a holiday is the perfect way of doing that.

On arrival into Dubrovnik or Tivat from your chosen UK departure airport, you will be transferred to your hotel.
Settle in, relax, and enjoy the stunning sights across the bay from the hotel terraces, before joining us for the Pre-Congress Pairs this evening, which will be a Blue Pointed event.
If you wish you can choose to travel out the day before and add an extra night to your stay, giving you more time to explore your surrounding area.

Spend the morning at leisure. Admire the surrounding scenery, enjoy a spot of shopping and celebrity watching at Portonovi Marina, or utilise the excellent local buses to visit the towns nestled along the bay.

Enjoy a morning relaxing at the hotel. Take in the beautiful scenery from the terraces, enjoy a stroll around the bay, or perhaps take a dip in the pool before lunch. The Swiss Pairs 3 event takes place this afternoon, followed by the IMP Pairs Green Pointed event in the evening.

Today, we offer an included excursion to the fortified city of Kotor. Famous for its rich history, fascinating landscapes and UNESCO-listed Old Town, you’ll find plenty of sights such as Romanesque churches, medieval buildings and a clock tower.
Later, we will enjoy a visit to the remarkable 'Our Lady on the Rocks’. According to legend, this islet was made by local seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child, and laid a rock in the bay after every successful voyage until this islet was formed.
If weather permits this tour will operate by boat and you will enjoy a beautiful trip across the Bay of Kotor.
We will return to the hotel in time for lunch and afternoon Pivot Teams. After dinner, Open Pairs Handicap, which will be Blue Pointed, will take place.

Enjoy a morning at leisure. Why not take this opportunity to visit historic Herceg-Novi, with its incredible Clock Tower? This beautiful town, which is easily reached by the local bus, boasts winding streets, flower courtyards, an old fortress, and an amphitheatre amongst its many attractions.
After lunch, there is a Round Robin Multiple Teams session, which will be continued after dinner this evening – this event is Green Pointed.

Today, we visit the picturesque, medieval town of Budva. Known as the miniature Dubrovnik, enjoy exploring the quaint narrow streets, and be sure to walk around the city walls – the views across the Adriatic Sea will leave you speechless.
This afternoon, there will be free time to relax and make use of the hotel’s facilities. Enjoy a swim in the pool, or simply soak up the sun and admire the most incredible views across the bay and Adriatic Sea. This evening, the challenging Swiss Teams Session 1 takes place, which will be Green Pointed.
