Every second year the municipality of Hogeland in the Dutch province of Groningen plays host to a very special event, the Noord Groningen Quilt Festival. See world-class, traditional, art, and experimental quilts, and discover the vibrant city of Groningen and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Waddenzee. The show attracts prominent quilters from both the Netherlands and overseas, and their work is exhibited in typical Dutch windmills, characterful churches and other historical buildings that are part of the regional heritage. Marjan and Rob Ruitenberg launched the Quilt festival Noord Groningen in 2010 out of their shared passion for quilting. More than a decade on, it has grown into a biennial celebration of the art of quilting that draws visitors and exhibitors from across the world.
