Your Bridge Programme
Play & Explore holidays are suited to intermediate players who wish to learn new skills, and regular players looking for a relaxed holiday with bridge.
Our bridge programmes will vary according to the length of your break, and, in addition to playing bridge, our host will aim to include interactive bridge seminars.
Your duplicate bridge will be available every evening between 7:45pm and 11:15pm. We endeavour to vary these evening sessions, balancing between teams and pairs and playing relaxed and friendly bridge.
Bridge will also be offered some afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:45pm. These sessions are normally given over to open pairs/teams. On UK holidays, bridge sessions may take place in the mornings instead of the afternoons, complimenting any included excursion programme.
Masterpoints are awarded on evening sessions, and on day sessions with over 5 tables.
During your bridge holiday, nothing is obligatory, and you can play in as many or as few bridge sessions as you wish. We don’t forget you are on holiday and our bridge programmes also allow time to relax, giving the opportunity for you to explore the surrounding area.
This morning we head to Crich Tramway Village, home of the National Tramway Museum, Situated in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, the tramway provides a trip back to a bygone age. Soak up the atmosphere in the period street with a visit to the shops and Eagle Press. Vintage trams transport you into open countryside with breathtaking views of the Derwent Valley.
We return by coach to the hotel for bridge this afternoon. Later we enjoy dinner followed by evening bridge.

This morning our coach transfers us to Rowsley South, where we will join the Peak Rail Heritage Railway for a return journey. The line follows the river Derwent and passes through the spectacular Matlock Dale.
We then continue to Chatsworth House and Gardens for an afternoon visit. Home to the Dukes of Devonshire for many generations, the land was purchased by Elizabeth and William Cavendish in 1549 for £600. This was the home of Elizabeth, Countess of Shrewsbury, better known as Bess of Hardwick. During her lifetime she married 4 times and rose to a position of great power and wealth. In 1547, she married William Cavendish, Treasurer of the King’s Chamber – they had eight children and made Chatsworth their home.
A later marriage to George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury, in 1567 saw Bess become Countess of Shrewsbury. Over the following generations, the house was transformed into what we see today. This afternoon, you have included entry into the house and gardens to explore at leisure.
We then enjoy dinner in the hotel followed by evening bridge.
