Realising that Nazi Germany threatened the very existence of Western civilisation, Canada entered the Second World War on 10th September 1939. By the time the war in Europe was over, more than 45,000 Canadians had given their lives and another 55,000 had been wounded.
This special Remembrance Tour explores Canada’s great efforts in World War Two. There’s focus on the Dieppe Raid that proved to be the bloodiest single day for Canada’s military in the entire Second World War. Bomber Command and some of the efforts of the approximately 50,000 Canadians involved in operations over occupied Europe. Our tour looks at D-Day and the Allied Operation Neptune visiting Juno Beach where Canadian troops stormed German defences. Finally, the Normandy Campaign and the important role Canadian Regiments played in defeating the armies of the Nazi regime. With visits to museums, memorials, the sites of historic battles and Canadian War Cemeteries, this Remembrance Tour is an opportunity to honour the fallen, and recognise the courage and achievements of Canadians and Newfoundlanders that fought on European soil.
